View Full Version : Anyone else running those dirt cheap eonon double din head units?

I picked up a eonon e1091 (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tZaqOgbj0js) for very cheap a couple years ago on ebay. Only 200 bux incl. delivery direct from eonons store in China. At the time I was honestly expecting them to send me a dead or refurbed unit coz the normal price on their website was $350. When the thing arrived in new box and packaging and actually worked I counted it as a miracle. I then expected the thing to fall apart or die within a year which still would've been worthwhile for the price.

2 years later now however and the thing is still running strong with daily use!?I don't know whether i'm just lucky or these units actually have decent reliability because at the time i purchased i was reading horror stories of units catching on fire or breaking down within weeks...

So, does anyone else have an eonon, old or new, and how has it held up for you? Provided the reliability isn't too much of a problem these days i might upgrade to one of their newer units with blue tooth audio streaming for my android.

I just installed one of these units in my second car, a 96 NJ TD Paj. So far, so good. 160 something bucks, free shipping (super fast ex HK). I just wish it came with a Mitsubishi logo! Has anyone figured out how to put one on? I know you can in the higher spec Eonon units. Anyway, I connected up a reversing cam to it last night too, so until now, I'm pretty happy with it. It's a D2208 from memory. Nice to hear that yours is still working well after a couple of years, mate.

i have a 5" one which i am retiring this weekend for a pioneer P7850BT, however its lasted over 5 years and was transferred from old car to new. I use the bluetooth phone feature a lot and play dvd's too. I've found it too light in sunlight so i can't see the screen during the day well, and its has a bit of engine whine but apart from that its an awesome unit.

My Mum's got one in her car. Absolute POS in every way from display image quality to reliability. Now it refuses to tilt out for CD/DVD loading and will turn on sometimes. Absolutely no comparision to my JVC AVX. One gets what one pays for.

**Update** Eonon has packed it in and we've ordered a JVC-AV70BT.
With the prices that you can get the JVCs or even the Sonys on ebay and other on line sellers, I can't fathom why anyone would bother with eonons anymore.

I was thinking of buying a Eonon to (G2227V)
I want a head unit with reversing camera. I am not expecting the GPS to be as refined as say a Navman
I think they are a great unit, just most people write them off due to the lack of brand awareness
The way I see it is that they all come from pretty-much the same factory in China, but you add $300 to the price from some writing

I would recommend keeping the factory head unit incase disaster strikes

The GPS "experience" is really a case by case basis - theoretically as long as the GPS software is good, the navigation should be on par with a decent stand alone unit - but Mal I and I had the same unit and where he had nothing but trouble with his navigation, mine worked beautifully - and was probably the best thing about the unit.

Not really. The JVC ones are really good value for money but if I were to be buying any media\nav headunit now I'd be looking at the iDroid 8000.

Looks to run really nice and smooth too.

That's if you can put up with the 2 minute boot up time.
I was looking at Andriod HUs recently as I am entertaining the idea of up-grading my 7" double DIN JVC head unit at some stage as it's now almost 7 years old (still going strong mind you)

Don't get me wrong, I love the idea of Droid HU's & it's great to see that they are now a reality, and the possibilities will probably seem almost endless (in car diagnostic MUT app anyone?) but I think it would be better to wait for the next generation ones to come out.
I've read a couple of articles and user reveiws that most aren't what they are cracked up to be in terms of smoothness of operation, ease of use & quality/longiveity.

But in the end I agree that this looks like the way to go as the next big thing for in car entertainment.

Can you link me to a review, as I've yet to come across any and if the boot time is as long as 2 minutes, I may be better off modding a Galaxy or Asus tablet to suit.

From the last time I heard, they are around $1000 for the android units.

Using a tablet isn't to bad, but you would need to either run a secondary head unit or find an external sound card that takes the headphone Jack and runs off 12v/usb for power

Yep that was the idea, keep the existing head unit and run an aux to the existing headunit either by 3.5 phono or by a 3.5mm to RCA adapter.

I'm not sure if you are trolling, but if you are, good job!

"Product awareness" is certainly not the case with these piles of shit. And so what if it is made in the same factory as a top of the line Alpine unit? That doesnt say even the slightest thing for the products quality... 1 assembly line will dip into the bag of Burr Brown 1-bit DACs and solder them onto the circuit board, and the other, older, less refined assembly line, will dip into the bag of DAC shaped pieces of dirty silicone and solder them to the board...

Simple fact is, you pay for quality. And Eonon units are like going to the 2 Dollar Shop for steak knives and wondering why they wont cut through your 50% off 3 day old chuck steak from the shop.

Sorry for late reply. Here's one of the forums that I was looking through.

I always like to do a little research before buying something sight unseen. I love the concept of an android based HU, but like I said before, I'll wait until the manufacturers have the technology sorted well enough for me to upgrade to one of these.
