Hi guys.

I'm starting to hear distortions and a kind of fuzzy noise occasionally from various elements of the front speakers at different times (I heard stuff from the right tweeter one day, then the left speaker the other day)

Now considering these are stock speakers on a 2002 TJ Magna Sports, that are attached to an amplifier (previous owners decision :-/) and how I occasionally have my music up rather loud, I'm pretty firmly of the opinion that while they aren't blown per se, they are probably too crap to deal with the output that is given to them.

I'm just curious about a few things that I'd like some help with if possible.

The front speakers are 6" but can be changed to 6.5" right? If possible I'd like to have a fairly OEM look, so would it be possible to put the new speakers behind the standard grille?

Also, as new splits will come with new tweeters, are they able to be used in the OEM tweeter pod (I think that's what they are called?) or would they be taken out and the new ones put in their place completely?

Also, where do the crossover things go? (they look like mini amps or something?)

Thanks.

I am pretty sure the stock speakers are 6". My mate is doing my stereo with my help and were putting in a set of Crescendo Opus 1's which are a 6.5" speaker. So I am sure they'll fit and if not, we'll just make up a new mount to suit. Depends on how handy you want to be?

Oh and crossovers are going in the boot.

6.5" speakers do fit no worries. The crossovers split the signal so midbass is played through thebigger speaker, and treble comes through the tweeter basically.. There are a couple brackets in behind the door trim where they should mount no worries. I did that in my TJ sports, and also my TL ES, both of which have different door trims.

I usually keep crossovers out of the doors just given there is exposure to water inside the doors and it can get wet technically. My last instal years ago by tonkins saw then place crossovers in door and just tapped em up inside the door. Sure enough the cross over fell, landed in the bottom of the door, arc'd out, shorted a fuse and upon inspection, saw it was wet. Nice 1 tonkins!

My doors have so much dynamat in them that if my x overs get wet, the car is ****ed anyway, speakers are my last concern. If you leave the plastic skin on the door alone, and mount the x overs up high enough, they should never see moisture anyway.

I mounted mine under the dash. Fed the wires to the Tweeter and the Woofer from there..(This is based on I am only using Headunit power and no amp)

well i recently replaced the factory splits for the same reason, while they worked, the drivers side tweeter was iffy was cutting in and out, and the front driver woofer was quieter then the passenger, easy to change, I have a Tj VRX with mirror tweeters, i used the latest model pioneer 1604 6.5" splits they were perfect, had to drill new holes in the factory spacer but that was not a big deal, these also come with a inline crossover which doesn't need to be mounted, to it was tapped in to the speaker wires going to that speaker, for the tweeters i used factory brackets and hot glued the pioneer ones in place, the pioneer tweeters are same size as factory therefore were a perfect fit again, all went in smooth and the sound quality is great (im running of a amp though).

these splits are around $200 mark. highly recommend them
