After all the drama's with the car, tapping and overheating, its new engine time. So the question is...

How much will it cost to do a transplant?

1. New engine price? i've got the feelers out but i'm not sure how much a 3.0L TF V6 should be going for.
2. Installation? How much can I expect for someone to install the new heart in Werribee?
3. Where is the best place to go in the West (Werribee area) for the transplant?

i'm calling on the experience of you all...

Thanks in advance.

Now would be a good time for a 3.5L if you want to go that way. You should be able to find a 3.5 with the timing belt done for under 1000 easy, fitting cost not too sure.

And I would go for a "current" 3.5, say from a TL as they had the 155kw motor. If you can stretch the budget, go the 6G75 3.8 motor. Either will fit in the engine bay.

First point of call would be to give our sponsor Mitsfix a call, he is in Victoria and can do you an engine conversion at the same time. You won't be able to beat his prices anywhere and the work is 2nd to none, trust me i've had 2 conversions done myself lol.

He may be able to source a 3.0L I'm not sure, but the price diff between a 3.5 would very negligible.

I've sources a 2002/3 3.5ltr for $450 and am getting installed for $700. Can't go too far from home as Mal is on the other side of town. Once it's done I might ask Mal to check out the craftsmanship. Getting it over to Mitsfix unfortunately isn't an option (I truly wish it was)

You are being ripped big time. 700 for install is stupid amount to pay. Is like getting a car on ebay for 290 but postage is 10 grand. The prices are closer the other way around. Fitting shouldbbe between 350 and 450 max given trans does not come out

Mal speaks the truth. Drive it or get it towed to his place. At least you will get a good engine. And the job done properly.

So.
What sort of engine is this, you say has done around 100k, is there a guarentee that the timing belt has been done or does this need to be done as well. What sort of guarentee is there with this engine, what is the warranty.

With the fitting, you want me to give the car a once over after done, does this mean that you have little confidence in the work, does this place know what other additional parts are required to go from TE.F 3.0 to a TW 3.5, do they know what parts to keep and what parts they will need to get, some of which can NOT be used from a TL/W........

This could all end up costing more than you budgeted for.

The engines when I sell them will come with the required correct parts for you, no need to mess around trying to source parts lol
