Anyone changed these on the AWD's?
Pretty simple or a bastard to do?
Mine need changing and will be doing it this weekend.

Did mine when I changed to the thicker sway bar.
Pretty easy as they are split.
Car up, block off.
Remove wheel.
If only doing one side at a time you will need to push the suspension up on the side that you are working on.
Piece of wood on top of the jack, placed under the outboard end of the lower control arm will do.
Undo the 2 bolts on the bush clamp.
Pull the bush out, remove from bar.
Reverse steps to put the new bush on.
If you have changed to Nolathane or something similar then don't forget the grease between the bush and the bar.

Cheers mate, looks to be a simple job.
Yeah there Nolathane, so should last longer than the car.
Also there doesn't seem to be a listing for rear Nolathene D bushes, anyone know if they exist?

I had my front sway bar 'D' bushes changed late last year (by a Mitsu dealer). A month or two later I had a safety check done at a suspension specialist (not Pedders) and they commented that the D bushes were not sitting closed but split apart (and they did not know that they had been recently replaced). Does that sound bad? They said that they might be an incorrect size and need replacing or maybe just reinstalling. Otherwise my front end suspension got a pass from them.
Can someone check the following part to see if it fits my TL AWD, or else point me to where I can do it?
"MIAW343164 BUSHING-23MM"
Any comments about D bushes not sitting closed?
Thanks in advance.

The only reason they are not closed would be that the diameter of the part fitted is too small for the sway bar on the vehicle.
I have been looking for some new (harder) sway bar bushes for my new awd.
Short of getting out the digital calipers, getting underneath, and actually measuring the actual diameter of the bar on my car I have not been able, so far, to establish what the correct size is despite lots of looking on this forum, in the newly purchased Max Ellery workshop manual, suspension parts suppliers etc.
Information varies from 21mm through to 23mm.
Hopefully I will have an accurate measurement by the weekend.
P.S. In the meantime I am hoping someone will "chip in" with a nice easy reply, such as "the standard TL front sway bar takes a xxmm bush".

I was under the impression all the swaybars for the third gens were identical?
Bar possibly AWD and FWD rear bars

I thought so too - AFAIK awd and fwd being the same on the front, but I can't find a listing with Superpro** suspension, and I don't trust Whiteline tech information* - long story.
I would much rather just be able to just buy the part and then fit it, rather than having to jack the car up twice.
Once to measure, wait for the part to arrive and then jack it up again to fit.
So, can anyone advise correct diameter for TL front sway bar bushes?
* Whiteline shows 21.5mm??

Nolathane have 3 fitting sizes:

20mm, 21.5mm, 23mm.
** Superpro does not have a listing for TL, only for TJ and earlier and shows 22mm, 23mm and 24mm. :eek2:
Such potential for errors. :tired:

AWD front sway bars are definitely different than FWD in design, if not thickness. I thought the J series AWD front bar was 22mm, not sure about L/W series.

I just changed my front TL awd sway bar bushes.
The bar measured 23mm.
Superpro part # SPF1801-23K
Supplied by Selby Suspension at Nowra.

The proprietor, Chris, is very helpful and knowledgeable.
$22.55 including GST.
I followed the helpful "how-to" guide prepared by "Grelise".
It took me a lot longer than 1 hour, but part of that was that the old passenger side bush was mangled and did not want to come out(and also I am not as young as I used to be).
The improvement is noticeable, with less steering lock required, and more stable.
It could be the best $22.55 that I have ever spent on a modification.
I also ordered my new 18mm rear sway bar from him - $250 including GST.
3 weeks wait unfortunately.

I just checked the part # of the old "D" bushes I just replaced.
The part # moulded into the rubber bush is "AW343164".
It is a 23mm bush.

Thanks leadfoot6 for your feedback. It seems that I have the correct bushes then. I also had my Mitsu dealer check them out a couple of weeks ago while the car was in for a service and they said there was nothing wrong with how they were sitting.
