Hey, with this mod, are there any hot air issues if one were to simply remove it altogether? Or is cutting the end off and reattaching it better?

Search is your friend, check out this thread:
Lower intake mod (http://www.aussiemagna.com/forums/showthread.php?t=65965&highlight=resonator)
The jury's still out on whether removing it altogether results in hot air issues. The bottom opening in the airbox is fairly close to the front bank exhaust manifold, so it could suck in some hot air from that source.
If you cut the end off and put it back on you will have no problems with hot air as the cut end is nowhere near any source of heat, in fact it sits in a good spot to pick up cool air.
If you remove it completely you'll most likely get a fairly loud induction roar at WOT. Some like the noise, some don't. If you instead cut the end off you'll still get some induction roar but much more 'refined'.

as per tree man. But don't take it off or chop it too short. Read the thread and all shall become clear, Grasshopper. Make cold air your friend.

Easiest thing is to remove it altogether and drive around like that for a couple of weeks and see if you like it. Then if you're worried about heat and/or you find the induction roar is too loud then cut the end off & whack it back on.

Did the mod today.. just removed the whole part and left a hole. I'm liking the induction roar under power and she revs higher a lot happier especially in first. The difference might be really noticable for me at the moment though because my snorkel/air box hasn't arrived yet and I was used to running the stock 4cl intake.
edit. Also for those who are aspiring to do the mod, rather than jack it up and do it from under the car, we unbolted the airbox and pipes and got at it from the top, if you unhook the radiator overflow bottle it just pulls out the top with a bit of strong arming.

I took mine totally off. Doesn't seem to make much of a difference apart from noise. The buttdyno feels a slight change but it's hard to tell if there is a real difference without extensive actual dyno testing.

That's a good idea. I didn't know you could get at it from the top. I read the original thread before... but don't have a trolley jack or ramps. I tried to get the inner guards off but could not get all the plastic screws out - so going in from the top would be much better. I'll have a look over the long weekend. (I drove for a while with the top intake snorkel removed - great roar under throttle!)

You still need to take off the inner guard on the passenger side to get to two of the bolts, but it's easy enough if you put your wheels on full left lock. You should be able to take off the plastic screws with a phillips head.. if they don't seem to be threading properly try holding the plastic outside ring piece while you unscrew it
