Hi, this is my first post and im not sure if its in the right spot, but anyway..
I have a '97 Magna.. Pretty Standard.. I just spent $200 on replacing the resonator with a cannon tip. I had the whole thing properly welded at a shop and all that..
Now, even before i installed the cannon i get this funny sound from the front of the car (i think) obviously it has something got to do with the engine/exhaust. now it sounds kinda like a belt chirping but its not a belt.. its a deep screech sound, a friend said it was the power steering tensioner ? but im not sure. i just want a clean deep exhaust sound from it.. also it happens under 2200rpm mostly from 0-30km/h.. pls someone help

1) cannons are not tips, they are actually a form of muffler
2) why the heck would you fit a cannon to a v6 car
3) can you maybe take a video of it making the sound, upload to youtube and then post a link to it back here so we can actually hear what the sound is?

Screeching sound would probably be a belt slipping, tentioner is possible too.

Maybe the new exhaust parts are rubbing against something and the vibration causes the sound at certain speeds?

hmmm im not sure. its coming from towards the front though, i got replaced the resonator with a cannon. its probably the extrators.. maybe they're loose?

could be anything, just because exhaust work has recently been done would mean that your issue is 100% the exhaust, to do a cannon install they dont need to touch the extractors and i havnt heard of to many caes where they magically come lose after a exhaust system having work done, as mentioned your best bet is to upload a video ( or sound file ) of the noise so it can be better assesed

I'd be checking your exhaust heat shields as well.

Does your engine have an idler pulley between the alternator and a/c compressor. If so, remove it and do the belt up tight then re-check for the noise. Mitsi deleted this part due to it causing a grumble type noise at particular rpm.

the sound was present even before the cannon was installed. i bought it like this 2 months ago. i ran my battery flat last week -.- so i will have to get that charged before i can start it. so im hoping to upload it tomorrow :) thanks for ur reply tunerequired :)

sounds like the power steering pump? when i had below min fluids in my AU falcon it did the same thing, and when you turned the wheel it made a horrable sound, whats the power steering fluid like?

Cannon not really good idea I have Sports muffler designed specifically for a magna at rear and free flowing sports system without a resonator provides required back pressure.

oh god not the ricer side mounted license plate, i dont know how people like the sound of the cannon drone
anyways nothing to do with new exhaust parts, other them that i am abit baffled by the noise

I know exactly what it is, cuz i have the same problem, does it stop after you go over 1000 revs?
if so its the aircon pump, i held my throttle on just enough for the noise keep going, and i pressed the aircon switch and it stopped. the i found out its the pulley on that unit. if not, yeah i dunno lol but thats what mine is, hope this helps...
