Hi all, just checked the fluid in my Verada I bought two weeks ago and its low, is the fluid the same type thats in the TR-TS magna transmission? I think it is but just needed to check. The colour of the fluid is strange too, its like the colour of slightly dirty new engine oil, I'm use to the colour being a redish colour, is this right or does it just mean its way overdue or a fluid change? also what other brands suit Magnas besides the Mitsubishi ELC-4-SP2 ? thanks for your help guys, cheers

The Magna automatic transmission fluid is SP3 not SP2 for starters. The reason it's brown is because it's well overdue to be changed.

Get the genuine stuff from Mitsubishi and either flush the system yourself or get someone to do it. Pretty important piece of preventative maintenance with Magnas.

Thanks for your reply, for starters my KH Verada's operaters manual on page 8-14 states to use Mitsubishi ELC-4-SP2, I guess SP3 is a newer version of the fluid

I just bought a Nulon brand that can be used in many different makes, it says on the label suits Mitsubishi ELC-4-SP2/SP3 , has anyone used this trans fluid before, I guess its safe to use otherwise Nulon would be sued if it damages transmissions

As long as it states SP3 rated, can be coles brand for all it matters given that there are about 3 factories who mix this stuff. Mits brand is only BP, I personally use Mits brand as I get a good deal ont he 60l drums I buy but that being said, if Penrite or Nulon offered it as cheap then I would get theirs, I know of at least 2 dealers here who use Penrite

Cool thanks for your reply, it says the trasmission has a external filter, but i can't find, I bought one today to fit but damed if I can see where they are on the transmission, maybe I'm not looking hard enough

Just found some info, the late TH's deleted the external oil filter from the transmission and replaced it with an internal one, my KH was bulit 3/00, guess that why I can't find it.

The external filter is on the top, look down under the left side of the snorkel, looks like an oil filter? Does anyone know if the filter should be changed before, after, or halfway through flushing? And do I need to get an internal strainer as well as the external filter?

Hi TiMi. Are you sure the transmission filter is the one under the air cleaner snorkel? I was led to believe that is the oil filter and the one under the engine is the transmission filter. I am about to do an oil change and would appreciate confirmation of the whereabouts of the OIL filter please. Thanks.

And when you check the level of fluid the transmission must be in "neutral' N to get a accurate checking (thats what my mechanic told me to do)

Download the manual and double check if you want, but I'm pretty sure the one on the drivers side that screws up on to the engine is the engine oil filter, and the one under the air intake on the passenger side that screws down onto the transmission is the transmission oil filter, which was only on earlier 3rd gens, later models they plugged that hole and used an internal transmission filter.

Hi all, thanks for your replies, I changed the ATF a few weeks ago now, with Nulon multi vechicle ATF, seems fine, the only problem is the same as the one I had before, it does 3,000 revs before going into second gear, and thats with a light foot, what actually controls the trans when to change gears? cheers

I will find it, but im.on my mobile doing.this now :) Yes I done the ECU reset about 2 weeks ago, it made no difference at all. Maybe my ECU is faulty, might get a second hand one and fit and see if that fixes the problem. Just remembered it also goes back gears to easy, you don't have to stop for it to go back to first, if I slow to say 15k's an hour at a roundabout it will go back to first, just the opposite problem I had with my old KR Verada, it use to stay in 3rd unless you gave it extra throttle. Cheers
