View Full Version : Headlights?
Have posted similar thread in Sth Oz Forum, I recently purchased a TJ 2002 exec (pewter), and looking at pics online for ideas on bodykits, mags etc. I have noticed some of the rides posted on this forum have different headlights.
So you know what im talking about, i have posted a pic of headlights on my car and a pic of the lights I would like. Can anyone give me some info on these? Like what magna do they come from (VRX, sports?) where can you get them from (other than mitsi), approx $, are they relatively straight forward to fit? etc etc. Any help or info much appreciated.

Bogus_ID sells these Parabolic units.
Check out your local wreckers. I picked mine up for $450 for the set. New from Mitsubishi are $900 or there abouts. I however added this to my insurance at the full price for obvious reasons.
Haha, good work  .....that also reminds me, sound system isn't insured
I think it's just Bogus.
You can get these lights from these models: VR-X, Sports, Verada and AWD models. They fit straight in and only require a simple bit of rewiring and maybe lifting the wheel arch panel to get them in.
They come in two versions: one piece and two piece. One piece are better but harder to fit in. Also note that not all headlights have parkers but they can be fitted quite easily by cutting out your old ones.

Thanks for the info, I wasnt sure if they were VRX/Sports headlights. I noticed from ur home page you have a 1997 Mitsubishi TF, and you were able to fit the lights to your car, I would assume (maybe you or someone else could clarify....) that the lights from a TJ VRX/Sports should fit quite easily into a TJ exec with minimal headache, but would the wiring be straight forward as well?
Also could you clarify the diff between one piece and two piece? ( I appologise for my ignorance on the matter.)
Cheers.

The two piece has no corner indicator. The single includes the corner indicator. I think the earlier models use the two piece (TE-TH).
Also I believe the sports only had the paras in the TJ model.

Does that mean that there's a one and two piece available for the TJ series?

You will find most of the single piece headlights (with the corner indicators) are from the Verada, therefore they don't have the parkers.
However I have a feeling the latter VR-X models (TJ probably MY02+) also uses the single piece headlights with the parkers in them.
Thanks for the help guys, will enquire at local wreckers. Will keep ya posted on how things go...

Another thing - the 1 piece are plastic lens (which do have a tendancy to go slightly yellow and opaque) bad to use with overwatt or non UV-cut bulbs.

So....
The one piece units are from early model Veradas and had indicators as part of the asssembly.
The two piece are for the later model (TJ-KJ onwards) Verada/VRX/Sports/AWD etc, which have separate indicators, similar to the Exec/Advance headlights?
I think the one piece look better.
Just to clarify my first inquiry.....
below is a pic of a 2000 VRX (posted by evoLve in the POST YOUR RIDE forum). These are the headlights I am interested in fitting my 2002 TJ exec. Also is a pic of a 1999 TH (posted by DVS in the POST YOUR RIDE forum aswell). To me it looks as though the VRX lights would be one piece and the lights on the TH are two piece?????
Any comments?

In a nutshell, if your have a TE - TH you need verada headlights from a KE - KH. The TJ / KJ Parabolic headlights won't fit the TE - TH Magna's due to the different mounting bracket. I've heard people getting away without using the mounting bracket and just bolting their headlights to the radiator support panel. I wouldn't reccomend this.
If you have a TJ Magna you need One Piece Parabolics from either the VRX, TJ Sports or KJ Verada.
KE - KH Parabolics are Two Piece - Whereby the headlight and indicator and seperate
TJ VRX / Sports & KJ Verada's are One Piece - Whereby the indicator is built in.
Remember parabolics from Verada's won't have parkers. This is illegal. If you want your headlights to be legal then you really need VRX / Sport one piece parrabolics which have the parkers built in.
Hope this helps, i've done way to many parabolic conversions for my liking lol

Thanks for clarifying that one. As you say u have done many conversions.... how easy is it to purchase the VRX/sports one piece parrabolics and fit them urself??? any traps for young players we should be aware of?
Cheers.

actually, the early TJ/KJ models with the parabolic lights are 2 piece....from TJ1.5 (where VR-X gained the 17s) they used the 1 piece version
Yeah I have a myo2 sports and have the one piece paras. Also noticed in the owners manuel that you can change the indicator bulb on its own if you have the two piece but if you have the one piece it says the whole headlight assembly has to be removed to chage the bulb and to take it to a mitsi dealer ,Bummer hey. but then again i havent tried to change one yet so cant speak from expereince. :D

Yep should be OK - non-UV cut bulbs are a no-no for polycarbonate lenses...

the two piece headlight went through the whole years and will fit any car, the single ones came out on TJ and KJ's about 2001. and went through from then. The old ones still fit the later TJ's and the one piece still fit the ealier cars. Either will fit with out modifcation as the headlamp support panels are the same part number.

The two piece parabolics are much easier to fit, the one piece parabolics are harder as its a tight fit but nothing patients can't fix. Really its not a hard job but the wiring can be anoying. I've allways had problems when it comes to wiring the two piece ones up, its just weird i don't get it.

Hella also does a UV cut bulb as well...
http://www.hella.com.au/cgi-bin/catalogue.pl?flcmd=preview&flmaint=2043
"Only UV Cut globes marked with an ADR 51/00 category should be used in plastic lensed headlamp systems. Non ADR 51/00 Category compliance high wattage UV Cut globes should not be used in plastic lensed systems because of damage which may occur due to heat build up."

MagnaArt i wouldnt get anything new from Mitsu unless ur willing to pay WAY over  , just go to normal car shop and get some that fit in the hole it wont be that hard to find and there piss easy to fit, just remember if you get a set of driving lights make sure it comes with a relay if not just buy that from a elec store!
