Ok got a problem AGAIN with my gear box
The problem is a sound that sounds like when your tappets go but when i put the clutch in the noise stops :?
The box is still under warrenty from when i snaped all the gears but i would like to know what it is cause i really don't want to go back to the guy who fixed it the first time
Any thoughts greatly appreciated :)

yep thrust bearing - mine has the same noise!!
not worth worying about - sometimes when you let off the clutch it will somethimes it wont - easy - if u chatting to someone while idling - just leave foot on clutch - i was told only need to get it changed when the clutch goes - so i am not worried about it - irritating yes but that is all.

i agree - i wasn't sure what was going on when i first heard mine go!!
But it involves taking the gearbox off to fix it and i can't be bothered - too much effort!!

yeah its the bearing i had that sound and it slowly got louder but then the powers that be decided to **** my 80,000km old clutch so i had to pay $1300 to get a new one and hence new bearing and now no sound .... well some good came out of it :D

I would have to concur you have to lower the engine out of the car to remove the gearbox hence i just got mitsubishi to do it , they rate it at 6 hours work :?

If its under warranty id get it done otherwise you'll just have to get it done further down the track, especially if you want to sell it in the near future.

Yeah, there was a guy called PlayMits who told me this ages ago. He used to be on the old RPW community site. He's a Mitsu mechanic I think. Mine does the same. One thing that I am worried about is that when I take off in first, sometimes it shudders a bit, especially if it's from a cold start.

Thrust bearing will not effect your gearbox if it is lose - which is what the noise is - if u are so worried about it - when u have your car in idle and u wanna get out and chut - pump the clutch in and out until u get it so it isn't rattling - it has no effect - no need to worry!!
