Which is brighter, LED strips of neon tubes?

The lighting will be in the grille, in the footwells and probably the parcel shelf. I keep thinking that an LED strip wont put out as much, or as solid a light than the neons. But CCFL seems to burn out a bit and be a little more touchy with inverters and all that junk.

So what should I use?

Also I don't see the point in starting a new thread, I'm planning on dyeing a set of grey seats black. What's the best type of dye to use? I want it to not fade, look patchy or go crusty. And I'd need to use like five or six bottles of that SimplySpray stuff, and I don't want to pay $120 to dye them.
