driving home from work last night and accelerating from a corner.
engine starts to spluter, pop and have no power
Can rev it to 6k being gentle on the throtle, but any more than light throttle it just misses and back fires.
Well today I replaced leads, inspected rotor and cap, they were fine
But still it misses and carrys on load at any rpm.
when taking off the cap, i noticed a leaking coolent hose going to the TB
this was driping on the dizzy, fixed the hose. And there was no water under the cap. and i sprayed WD40 around the area, including connectors.
anyone else got a theory?

Ignition coil in the distributor on its way out. Sounds very much like a weak spark. But that's just a wild guess, which I'm famous for. lol

all spark plugs are fairly new. rears are the plats.
ignition coil was my last guess, didnt want to pull it out as i would throw the timing out, and id rather limp it to the mechanics than pay for a tow.
the coil sits in the dizzy, below the rotor?? never changed a Coil before. how much are they for a replacement?
sucks i had an old one lying around, wish i didnt chuck it

If you need a distributor i have one here you can have for a couple of cans of Mother (seriously). I'm in the Campbelltown area, let me know if you're interested.

Will not touch the timing, the ecu does that

You need to change the dist, is far easier than just a coil

so i can just swap dizzys? and wont affect anything?
well then, i think ill have to take CAZ_345 up on your offer.
just gona be a pain getting to you, as i dont have a car, relying on train and car pooling to get to work/Uni

It could be a fuel blockage. If the fuel intake is partially blocked, the engine will go OK under light load, but when you need power, it will be too lean. It couldbe a partial blockage over the fuel intake in the tank, or a blocked filter.

well, got around to fitting a new Dizzy today, worked a treat.
big thanks to Life and caz_375 for the dizzy.
it has even appeard to remove a flat spot that was annoying me soooo much.

PS dean, i even managed to get the dizzy off without removing the intake plenum

Has anyone actually opened up a distributor and tried replacing the coil? Are the coils available separately?

eBay has some, apparently : MITSUBISHI MAGNA VERADA NISSAN PATROL IGNITION COIL AU$88 + AU$9.

i opened it up to see the coil, its bit of a pain, was much easier to just swap the dizzy around.
Turns out that my dead battery last week was the most likely cause of the dead coil, as i had to roll start it twice. driving on a dead battery is a no no.

Have pulled the coil out of a freshwater flood affected distibutor to clean out mud/dirt & dry it out etc before powering it up. The coil came out fairly easy, dried out OK & worked fine after reassembly. The coils are available separately & aren't that hard to fit.

Cheers

Glad this fixed it, ahve told this to so many people on these forums, think is time to make separate sections, one called "what do I do to my exhaust" and one "should I replace my distributor" lol
