Hi
Found your forum while seraching for some info prior to selling my car. Dont want to break the rules as I have just registered and therefore not allowed to sell a car here. I mostly wanted some advice as I can't seem to match up the year and model of my magna. It says 1996 V6SSI-R but, there is no option for this on carsales.com.au.

The "option" you have is just a dealer thing at the time, means nothing
Generally were Executives with ABS and Cruise optioins, got a set of stickers and whamo, there was another couple grand in the new car sale
Best you give us your vin number less the last 6 numbers and we can tell you what you have there

Thanks, I appreciate your help with this.
VIN 6MMTE6D42TT------
It is my wifes car, bought from her mum, bought from a best friend, so we have pretty much always had it in the family. I am curious because when I had it in for service one time, the mechanic rang me up to say how pleased he was because he had never had the pleasure of working on a Magna V6SSI-R!

As Jason stated, is an exec, mechanic must have either being funny lol or he was under the impression he had a one off on his hoist. There are a few of these about, think that they may have had a pin stripe and boot wing added from memory

6MM means the following:
Geographic Area = 6 which means Australia
Country within the Geographic Area = M which means Australia
Manufacturer = M which means Mitsubishi Motors

thanks for that. i presume the 3rd gens are made in other countries , hence the need for a longer VIN number with more codes .

They are all made in other countries as well. 2nd gens were also made in Japan for Japan and global market whereas the ones here were for local consumption except for the Verada Touring wagon.
3rd gens were made here for local and global market except Japan which made their own.

cool , do you know if Japan made thier own engines or were they imported from Oz?

They had their own special high powered engines. They have MIVEC, DOHC, GDI etc technology which we weren't good enough for. They had the DOHC and pretty sure MIVEC in the 6G72 versions as well and had the SOHC 6G72 12Valve as early as mid to late 80s.

All 3rd Gen wagons were designed and produced in Australia only.
We did export them to Japan during 1997 and 1998 where they were known internally at MMAL as the X60 wagons... They used the aussie built 3L SOHC 24V engine with the jap 5 speed tippy auto (same as used a few years later in the TJ sports/vrx), they had options of TV etc in them.... very very nice wagon.

Hi Guys
Thanks for all your help. I am not completely certain what I have got, as it does have the wing and a kind of body kit, alloy wheels and the V6SSI-R markings. My friend bought it new so I know all of this is original. Also another friend of mine is a mechanic and devoted magna hater, he says he has never been in a magna with so much go!
Anyway, I'll list it as - TE 3L Auto Executive Sedan - V6SSI-R.
Price wise - where do I sit? I was hoping to get 3K for it. - Achievable?
RightNow?

$3K is around average for early 3rd gens.
But depends on the kms and condition. If it's in really good nick with lowish kms you could probably find someone willing to pay $4.5ish possibly.
