Hey all got a little problem charge me battery after putting in another alternator, and when the engine runs it shakes heap and must a weird cluncking noise under rocker cover think I have the firing order wrong have it
1,2,3,4 so dizzy cap plugs on sparks plug in that order is that right or do I need to have dizzy cap lead 3 on cylinder 2, 4 lead on 3 cylinder and 2 lead on 4 cylinder and the number one lead on 1 cylinder?
Hope that makes sense!
Cheers

So does the dizzy cap go like 1 top, then 2 left 3 on bottom and 4 right in a clockwise direction stupid brain getting confused lol
Basically if 1 is on the top is 3 on the bottom and 2 and 4 on the sides of the cap getting confused at this bit, did read the Hayes manual but doesn't show all the numbers just the top one,

Well its running again, however got smoke coming from the exhaust and white crap in the oil and read that the head gaskets are gone, anyway know how hard is it to change these or how much a mechanic costs to repair it??

thats hard to price as could be cracked head or block aswell, get machanic. to quote repiare,s. cheapest way may be pricing another motor .hope its a cheap fix. you can try bars leak.but that is a short term fix only.

From what I've seen cracked blocks on 2.6s are relatively uncommon.
I have seen lots of blown head gaskets (which is the most likely cause) and I have personally had a warped head.
A VRS kit can usually be had for less than $100.
To get the head rebuilt I paid about $400. That's me taking off the head, dropping it at a place in Lonsdale, them rebuilding it, me picking it up and putting it back on. Apparently they can even patch up some minor head cracks depending on where it's cracked.
It's not a difficult job to do a head gasket on a 2.6 but you do have to know what you're doing and retension the head, etc.
To get the head gasket done professionally is usually a bit expensive. It would probably take them the best part of a day to do the job.

Well I have the white clunky stuff in the oil even on the filler cap and the car has a bad burnt smell to it and it got half way up on temp from a round the block drive (couldn't resist! !!") Will put a pic up soon

depending on what are you are in there is a good place behind holdens I use to go to when I was out that way. last one cost me $300 and did an awesome job. highly recommend. there pretty easy to do yourself but also easy to stuff up. most important part is to keep everything clean. new head bolts wouldnt go astray as they do stretch but ive reused them plenty of times with no dramas. but its worth it to be safe.
