Did do a search but could not find a straightforward answer as to what colour coolant should be used in 3rd Gens.
Should it be red or should it be green?
Any serious issues if the wrong one is used or if the coolant is mixed?

Only use the green coolant.
If the red and green is mixed the chemicals react and form a gel\sludge in the system.
I have some friends with the red coolant which lasts longer plus most if not all new cars have the red coolant. Apparently you must totally remove all traces of the green glycol type coolant as Nemesis says. To be on the safe side, I'd stick with the green.

Go buy the genuine stuff from Mitsubishi. It not much more than a good aftermarket brand.

Actually the mits stuff is just watered down and is far more expensive
I use Nulon in my own and all my customers cars, is not very expensive especially given you are getting concentrate unlike the mits stuff where you are getting 66% water

There is no difference between the colors but there is a big difference between the concentrations and active ingredients in Coolants sold in Australian. While all (except for RMI25) are glycol based some use recovered glycol and some use new. The green SQ36 (made by Rolls Royce) is based on inorganic additives and is one of the originals but had to be monitored closely and changed regularly and is probably the only one of the brand names that shouldn't be mixed with any other of the newer coolants. The colors are added during the manufacture and have nothing to do with the active ingredients in Australian Coolants. There are so many myths about coolant but generally you pay for what you get, one of the best is the long life Nulon and for goodness sake buy the concentrate and mix it your self it is easier to store and is much better value.

I got a bottle of the Mitsubishi genuine fluid for $54. It is 5L and contains 1025 grams/liter of ethylene glycol. That makes it about 92% and when mixed in the car would give a final concentration of 48%. This works out about the same as Castrol and a bit more expensive than Nulon

Mits genuine coolant is a waste of both packaging as well as money, what you are buying is 33% coolant and the rest is water. So if you want to spend that much on a bottle of water, save yourself the money and dont bother
With the Mits coolant, you need to totally drain the system and you will need far more than 5l to do a proper fill
The Nulon is what I have been using for years in ALL my customers cars, is the best on the market IMO and is also good value for money

Your magna will hold 10L of coolant, I will be doing a coolant change soon when I get around to doing my gaskets
I went for nulon longlife, 2 5L bottles for the price of 1, $29.95:)

So does that mean you are using it straight instead of the recommended 50/50?....is there a benefit?

To add to this discussion, there are some differences between the red and green with Nulon, the colour generally tells you wich type you are using, both are similar but have differences
Below is straight from the Nulon site
Green
Nulon Long Life Concentrated Coolant offers long-term cooling system protection for all motor vehicles. Nulon Long Life Coolant is based on Hybrid Additive Technology (HAT), which is a blend of organic and inorganic additives. The advantage of this product over conventional ethylene glycol type coolants is that the corrosion-inhibiting package has minimal depletion over an extended period of time. This means that maximum corrosion and anti-freeze/anti-boil protection are maintained until the fluid is replaced at the recommended 250,000 kilometres or four years (whichever comes first).
Nulon LL Concentrated Coolant is to be used at 33% to 50% by volume in soft or demineralised water. Nulon Long Life Coolant protects for four years or 250,000km and is safe to use in all Commodores and Ford Falcons (including all V series Commodores and AU to BF Falcons).
Nulon Long Life Coolant is a low silicate formulation containing no nitrite, phosphate or amine. These chemicals are often used in conventional coolants and have limitations in performance, protection afforded, and vehicles to which they are suited. Nulon Long Life Coolant is guaranteed suitable for use in all vehicles where the manufacturer specifies anti-boil/anti-freeze coolant.
Nulon Long Life Coolant meets the specified requirement (HN2217) of General Motors Holden for use in all Australian manufactured four-cylinder vehicles. HN2217 is the specification recommended by GMH for all warranty servicing of Australian built and imported (Opel) four cylinder vehicles.
Nulon Long Life Coolant's formulation is approved by Ford Australia (ESE-M97B44-A specification) for initial fill in all Australian manufactured 6 and 8 cylinder vehicles. This specification is recommended by Ford for all in-warranty and post-warranty servicing of Ford vehicles where a glycol based coolant is required.
Red
Red Long Life Concentrated Coolant
Nulon Red Long Life Coolant Concentrate provides the ultimate anti-boil, anti-freeze and corrosion protection for all late model vehicles, including petrol, diesel and heavy duty diesel applications. Red Long Life Coolant incorporates the most up to date Organic Additive Technology (OAT) carboxylate corrosion inhibitors. Red Long Life Coolant is nitrite and amine free to meet US requirements, phosphate free to meet European requirements and silicate free to meet Japanese requirements. Nulon RLL's carboxylate inhibitor package is more stable and stays in solution better than traditional coolants. This provides an extended shelf life of 5 years. Nulon RLL will not form solids inside cooling systems, or become abrasive to water pump seals. All of this means that RLL provides maximum corrosion and anti-freeze, anti-boil protection for up to 5 years or 250,000 km, (whichever comes first).
Nulon Red Long Life Coolant is the preferred coolant to use in cooling systems that are fitted with aluminium radiators. It is a genuine 100% OAT based, long life coolant. RLL is dyed its distinct red/orange colour to instantly distinguish its unique chemistry from traditional green coolants. It should not be mixed with other coolants. As it is a concentrated coolant, it is to be used at 33% to 50% by volume in soft or demineralised water. Nulon RLL provides maximum protection against cavitation erosion of wet cylinder liners in diesel engines. Nulon Red Long Life Coolant is not recommended for use in cooling systems that have a copper/brass radiator (in such vehicles, use Nulon LL, which is green). If changing from any other coolant to Red Long Life Coolant , always thoroughly flush the system first as cross contamination will reduce the life of Red Long Life Coolant .

I think the post says <2 5L bottles> which is 10 litres of concentrate. Gunna be a strong mix.

No, glycol can only hold half the heat of water. If you put pure glycol in your car it would overheat.

using 100% concentrate is somewhere between stupid and, well, I can not really say those words on a family forum........
Other than the fact it will not cool properly as the water is required as part of the mix, the fluid will be so thick it iwll not flow
Perhaps the poster was referring to 2 bottles of 5l pre mix Nulon which is also available

Aluminium
Sorry but again no
TE, F and early H have Copper core, the later ones have Alloy cores
I have used Nulon Green for so many years I would now have shares in Nulon, is tried and tested in my opinion
not a coolant question but ebay sell the aluminium radiators to suit te / tf series
whats the differance? alo any better?
Copper radiators cool slightly better than aluminium due to copper being a better conductor plus they are not affected by stray electrical currents which can kill an alum rad in no time - aluminium radiators are much cheaper to manufacture and weigh less - 2 good reasons why they are now almost universally used in passenger vehicles.
so better to stick with a copper one
cheers for the clarifacation
