View Full Version : Squeaky driver's seat

My driver's seat started squeaking about a week ago and it's gradually getting worse. Over bumps, when turning, and when I depress the clutch pedal. Not every time, it's intermittent. And there are two or three different types of squeak, but they all seem to be coming from the driver's seat.
Warranty claim? I know Braedz had his replaced under warranty.
But I think my warranty may have expired, dunno for sure as the book isn't real clear on this, I haven't taken it back to the dealer for yonks and my one & only warranty claim (window regulator) was over two years ago.
So I'm thinking DIY fix.
I assume I need to take the seat out of the car and remove the cloth upholstery, then do something with the seat frames and/or the foam padding. Judging by the workshop manual page 52A-33 there are no springs. I'm guessing most of the squeaks are coming from the seat cushion frame, part #15 on page 52A-33.
Any help or advice much appreciated!

Thanks Warren.

Tightened the bolts, the one nearest the gear lever (where the main squeak seemed to be coming from) was a tiny bit loose (full turn before RFT), the other three were pretty good, and sprayed the runners with WD40, will give it a run tomorrow and see if that did the trick.

also ive noticed that mines a little clunky especially over bumps etc when i have the seat base lowered as far as it goes. not sure which seats yours has but assume all would be the same. raising the base only by a few mm solves it completely

Gave it a test run this morning, no change, back to the drawing board.

Stormie - I already have my seat about half way off the floor, and changing the seat height didn't make any difference to my squeaks.

Sounds like the cushion frame to me, with one squeak for up & down, another one for side to side and a third one (most common) when I depress the clutch pedal.

I "loose" a bit of weight every morning, regular as clockwork! Just need to lose some as well. Funny you should mention that, I started a diet yesterday.

I had the same problem, worked out it was coming from the bolt where the seatbelt thingamigy where you plug it attached to the left hand side of the seat.

i had an issue with my drivers seat , squeeking and a clicking noise..
turned out to be the seat belt latch on the side, but it was hard to replicate the noise just wobbling it...
Mitsi replaced both front ones under warranty, which leads me to believe it's a known thing..

@Anthony.

Checked out the front seatbelt latch bolts (both of them), the driver's side was already RFT but the passenger side had quarter of a turn to go before it was RFT.

Gave them both a liberal dose of WD40, especially on the little wobbly bit just above the bolt.

Hey presto, no more squeaks! Well not after 36 hours anyway.

Thanks mate.

Are any of you guys getting grief about your cars being past 5000k's for getting things like this replaced due to creaks and groans?
