Hey guys,

This morning I noticed some sort of greasy fluid on the drivers side floor mat. I was driving around last night for about 30 minutes with the neon lights on. I am wondering if they generated a bit of heat and perhaps some grease liquified and dropped onto the floor?

Or, perhaps its trans fluid? I presume these cars are similar to say my old HQ where the speedo has a cable that runs out of it to the trans, and has fluid in it and hence maybe that cable is slightly loose or something? Do Magnas operate on a similar principle?

if not, any thoughts?

I put a piece of A4 paper on the floor just now and will see if anything else drops so I can see what color the fluid actually is. Pink/red = trans so fingers crossed its not that.

Speedo is electronic so no speedo cable...only thing I can think of is that you've picked some grease up on your shoe and it's rubbed off on the mat.

Its definitely not directly attributed to trans or engine oil leak...more likely a grease stain. Perhaps post up a pic showing the stain location relevant to the floor area. With a flashlight look up directly above the stain behind the dash? to see if there is a clue.

Are you leaking brake fluid from teh master cylinder input shaft? Probably not, but it is worth looking.

Leakage from the brake master cylinder input shaft usually happens in the engine bay. It is indicated by fluid staining on the face of the brake booster body or paint peeling/blistering on the brake booster body directly underneath where the master cylinder bolts on.

Did you step in something before you got in the car and has it come off your foot?

Looking under my dash on the drivers side, if the stain is just to the left and behind the brake peddle, it likely to be grease from the steering column. You will know what I mean when you look for yourself. The only other explanation I can think of is foreign grease/oil introduced by the sole of someones boot.

Can leak on both sides, I would check the pass side to be sure that is dry before it is discounted as teh coolant can run over the top of the ecu and down the RHS side as well

I had white paper on the floor all weekend, and nothing. Drove it around too. I think maybe it was some melting of grease from the steering colum shaft or something like that. Given theres no trans lines to the speedo, that rules that out.

I'll continue to watch it over the upcoming week.
