Hi guys.
I am new to this forum and having just purchased a 1998 Verada I found that the central locking remote does not work. The remote has 3 buttons and as far as I can see it is asealed unit.
Can this be opened somehow to replace the battery?
Any help would be appreciated.
Regards Ike.

Thanks pwn3d_69er for the info supplied but my remote is different to the one shown and as far as I can see it is a sealed unit and can't be split in half for the battery to be renewed. My question is: is it possible to split this remote?
Thanks Ike.
p.s. my ride is a 1998 kf Verada 3.5 lgtr V6 automatic.

Hi pwn3d_69er.
This is the picture of the remote that was given to me together with the ignition keys. I don't know if this remote is for the 1998 verada because the guy I bought the car from said that it never worked for the time he had the car and he couldn't open it to change the battery. Can you tell me if this remote is the right one for my car? If not which one is and how can I get one.
Thanks mate. Any help will be much appreciated. Regards Ike.
p.s. It appears that I can not attach a picture of the remote as I am a newbie to this forum. So I am sorry for not being able to send the picture. BUT can you tell me which is the correct remote for the 1998 verada?

This should be your remote, correct?
You cannot replace the battery, they are a sealed unit, the 3 grey buttons you cannot open, the green/red/grey you can(but the battery hold breaks off anyway after the 2nd battery)
To reprogramme to see if it works
Key in ignition, turn from accessories to ON and back a few times(leave a 1 second gap between each shift[do it at a steady pace]) until your turning indicators flash then press any key on the remote. This technique works on any grey 3 button remote whether programmed before or not.
If this doesn't work your up for a new remote I think

You can replace the batteries in the earlier remotes however it is not as straight forward as the later ones it requires you to actually cut around the seem line carefully and seperate the 2 halves then once apart replace battery and then you need to glue the 2 halves back together.Trust me it can be done i have done it several times on the early TE peanut shape remotes which are also a sealed unit. The only other option is to buy a replacement remote from mitsubishi. The TE ones the last time i bought a new one was about $60 from mitsubishi.

Thanks for all your help guys.
I cracked the remote open and found one of the battery terminals was broken. I resoldered it and now works fine. The only thing is the buttons are worn to buggery and I will need to improvise with some rubber or foam to make new ones and then glue the two bits back together. It will look a bit rough but who cares as long as it works hey? I only paid $1500.00 for the car so it's not worth spending to much more. If the remote fails again I will have to use the key to lock and unlock the car.
Thanks once again. Ike.
