Hi Guys
My 380 has had a very annoying rattle behind the carbon strip on the passenger dash since the day i got her. I recently took it for a cruise and it drive me absolutly nuts. Has anyone else had a horrible rattle in that area? or does anyone know how easy is is to remove that area (above the glove box) so i can find it and remove it!

Thanks

Mate,

I had a rattle like that for years, drove me nuts too. I couldn't track down exactly where it was coming from, and I thought it might be the carbon strip.
Then, by accident, I discovered that the front end of the passenger side plastic seat rail cover (where it clips over the rail) was rattling like mad. Rammed some foam padding under it and no more rattle. My theory is that the sound of the rattle from the seat rail cover was reflecting off the door/dash, making it sound like it was coming from the door/dash/carbon strip area.

Maybe your rattle is the same, maybe not, but worth a check just in case.

ill have a look. Mine seems to stop when something is pressed against the pannel (such as the passengers foot when they get annoyed too). mostly happens at higher speeds

Just a FYI it is not CF it is plastic printed with a CF pattern

but these things are screwed in tight so they will not rattle unless you have removed them

Hi guys, new (well used!) 380 owner here, previously had a Verada.

My 380 has three annoying rattles I've identified, one is indeed in the passenger side door. I've just confirmed it by banging on the inside of the door and listening carefully, it is inside close to the speaker, possibly in the posterior cavity behind the speaker.

The other two are more obvious, the rear view mirror has one if the road is bumpier, as does the sunglasses holder, that one is as annoying as hell.

Best options for silencing these things?

Cheers

I fixed a couple

First the loose sunglasses in the mirror holder - obviuous I know but they were a spare pair I very seldom use :)

Second tightened the glovebox lock mounting screws

Both sounded to me like they were in LH door - dissassembled all the trim there to no avail - nothing was loose inside

Yeah, like I said before these rattles & buzzes can be very deceptive, you're sure they're coming from a certain spot but the source turns out to be somewhere else. I'm sticking to my theory that the rattling sound is often reflected off some other part of the interior (usually the door) and this is what can fool you.
I also tightened the glovebox lock screws, helped get rid of one small rattle. To add to this, my glovebox lid didn't close very tightly and the whole lid would rattle against the surround. To fix it I glued a couple of small foam pads to the dash frame where the top of the glovebox closes over, so that the lid closes fairly tight now, and that fixed another annoying rattle.

Thanks for the tips. I shall have a look into them and see what i can find. I havent pulled anything apart, a bit scared of putting it back together. and i did realise it was fake carbon fiber, still looks cool though

Interesting... the sunglasses holder in mine rattles with nothing in it... it bounces against the locking clip when I drive over bumps and makes an annoying sound, I suspect that one's pretty easy to fix. How can I go about fixing the rear view mirror rattle, anyone got any ideas for that (remove mirror, put padding behind)? Also, the one in my LH front door... I'm *positive* it's inside, I opened the door wide and banged on the door just behind where the speaker is and I can hear it from inside, unless it's some damn cunning rattle ventriloquism!

To tighten the rear view mirror requires a torx screw bit. Mine had a vibration and just needed a small adjustment.

Sunglasses holder - I stuck some double sided tape in where it closes to hold it tight, fixed the rattle. Only problem is that makes it pretty much unusable, but I don't use mine anyway.

Rear view mirror - what worked for me was to simply rotate the mirror 360 degrees around the top ball joint. Try it one way first, if that doesn't fix the rattle try the other way. If that doesn't work try rotating it around the bottom ball joint, one way or the other. No guarantee this will fix the problem but worth a try.

Sorry to bump, but yeah, having the same problem and have been for a while! Appears to be pretty common it would seem from this, mine also appears when it wants to. Seems to be coming from the front left like yourself, wether it is from the speakers, doors or dash trim beats me. Also the sunglasses holder.

And another annoying noise that seems to be coming from the centre console or gearstick/handbrake assembly. Sounds almost like a loose nut, or a washer rattling around, and just hanging in there, hard to explain the noise, almost like getting a bolt, and chucking a loose washer on it and rattling it, or grabbing a piece of foam and braking it??? lol.

Just to revamp an old thread. Had enough the otger day and pulled the entire passenger glove box/aircon/speaker Assembly out. Couldn't find anything. Turns out the rattle for me is under the panel right at the bottom of the windscreen. Few bits of foam wedged under it where the speaker grill is and problem mostly fixed

I get a buzz from that area at certain speeds and road surfaces. I traced it to the front left speaker cover on the dash. Just fractionally loose. small piece of rubber from old wiper blade fixed it

Sunglass holder - cut a piece of carpet with the sticky back to fit inside the sunglass holder which stops sunnies rattling.

To stop actual holder rattling on catch - velcro or carpet dot stuck to each side of the holder (not the frame eg one dot on left side and one dot on right side of holder) so when it is closed a much tighter fit and cant be seen.

Rattle in base of left hand side of A pillar cover near tweeter - Pushed a piece of dark coloured foam in the gap. Once again cant be seen

These rattles seem common place in a 380? They are driving me nuts as well. The door one, the sunglass holder, and the front suspension. (not worried about that as I think I know the answer, and will have it looked at when I lower it soon).
