I think its been done, can't remember the exact details, but I think the 4sp can be run in tiptronic mode, except its still only a 4speed. Or if you want to change over all the looms etc that go with it you can put in a 5sp tiptronic auto. I got a vrx wreck and am slowly pulling it apart to try, but have gotten to the stage where it might be easier to just buy one with the 5sp transmission in it already.

Keep note if you plan on using that vrx 5sp you will need to fit the ecu. As a result of fitting the ECU, if you fail to install the TCL system you will get a CEL. I'm in the process of retrofitting VRX looms into my TH atm as well (however I will be running 5sp manual with a TCL retrofit).

Try PMing Madmagna to see if he can put together a DIY conversion kit

I've got a KH, has TCL but im not sure if there are any differences betheen H and J TCL, planning on slowly getting everything ready to go in and taking a few days off plus a weekend and hoping that I have a running car at the end of it. Would go manual, but im lazy and like the auto in traffic. Getting a 2nd car again when I move out hopefully, that one can be manual.

I also have a KH. I am awaiting my SKR tuned ECU (taken from a donor car) I have had them remove the immobilizer so it will work with my car and BEM.

So I have wired the shifter and the dash lights (optional) in, so the ECu should just plug in and it all functions.

I will update with the success or otherwise when the ECU gets to me.

Have done this 4 times thus far

YOu can get around the TCL to an extent but still need some parts of it as well as an ecu with TCL removed, which I have done

This is a PITA as you not only have CEL but you will also be stuck in limp mode as well as having no 5th gear when in this mode if the set up is not working properly

The best way is to simply to dump all the electrics from a TJ or similar with TCl, ABS etc etc into your car PROVIDED you have ABS etc already, if you dont you are in for a host of other surprises.

Check my green TF rides thread as this is very detailed on what is needed to change and convert to ABS

In short, unless there is something special about your car OR you have skills to do yourself, not worth it unless you have SRS and TCL (if you use the later looms with no SRS connected teh BEM and other systems will also have a fit as they are programmed to look for the SRS to check is there)

Is very detailed so have been breif in here

Thanks for the reply. Seems a little too complicated for my liking. Maybe i should just convert it.to manual instead. :) roughly how much am i looking at to convert it?

Price for a conversion usually is around $1000ish for parts, plus whatever a mechanic will charge to swap it over.

Eddy wreckers here in SA, $1200 the lot, (box parts fit)

Madmagna in victoria, $1000 the lot (box parts fit)

could be worth just going to victoria for a weekend or something, just use the spare $200 for fuel and food or what not, and it would be done by someone whos done it probly countless times

Definately go the manual conversion over a triptronic conversion. Besides, manual is more fun.

Only reason I got the semi auto was cause the wife cant drive manual.
