Hi All

Looking for a bit of advice. I have a 1999 Magna Altera TH LS (I believe). Anywho last night the car alarm kept going off, I found that the central locking was locking itself, then straight away unlocking but the alarm was set (the factory one) and then it would set itself off a few minutes later. So basically now I have a car that can't lock itself. Any ideas how to fix/cost involved?

Cheers

Likely to be a problem with the switch inside the drivers door, related to the key barrel - as drivers door gets the most use, this is the one to wear the most.

You could try jiggling with the key to see if it comes good as a stop-gap fix, or try locking the door with the key instead of your remote and see if that lets/makes it behave itself.

This has been discussed in older threads, so if you can trawl through Search results, someone might have more info. Madmagna (Mal) is also likely to be a good source of knowledge, or a bloke who can get you fixed at his Magna-speacialty business in Melb's eastern suburbs.

Thanks bud, tried locking it with the key but it just does the same thing. I'll have another look through the older posts.

Drivers door lock actuator is the fault for this , it controls all the other doors and ours was doing exactly the same as you described.I purchased a second hand unit from Mitsi Bits in south australia ,Lonsdale for $40.00 and with a bit of fiddly fitting fixed it for good .Took abot
