I fitted an aftermarket radio unit into the car the other day, all went really well. In the wiring code it had a wire to connected to the car audio light wire which the magna has. I connected to this wire and instead of the radio dimming at night when the lights come on, I could not vary the brightness of any dash lights at all.

I checked that the connection the dimmer switch was connected as I had the dash out too replacing bulbs etc, and it was, so I figured it was the wire that I connected to the audio light wire. I cut this wire and tested the dimmer and found that it now worked, so I re read the wiring notes, schematics and diagrams. There was a notation that said if this failed the alternate way to get dimmer functionality was to connect to the orange wire but ensure that the white wire was not connected (Radio notes), which I then tried. Again the same result, no dimmer function, so I again cut the wire, but now I have not had the dimmer capability return at all.

I have replaced the dimmer switch twice and it makes no difference. I am completely baffled by this now and would like to reslove this issue as the lights over the heater controls are excessively bright whereas the actual gauge lights are about medium level of brightness.

Open to all ideas now,
Thanks, Jeff

Doesn't anybody have any ideas, thoughts as to what might be the problem. I have tried everything from disconnecting the battery to unplugging all the lights and plugging them all in again, but no change :(
