Hey, currently I still have a stock 2nd gen steering wheel, dosen't have air bags just if you were wondering. I have been looking at changing it for a while to get a better grip upon and look nicer and was just wondering if it's worth changing and how much it can cost to do and what sort of steering wheel I should get as I really don't have a preference on what to get, still unsure.

Thoughts?

a 3rd gen wheel will fit, something like a ralliart one would look good

There are loads of option for wheels, I just installed a gallant leather steering wheel in my second gen :) I would stay clear of after market steering wheels as they are illegal due to them having a steel center :)

why is that considered illegal?

Because it can cause serious head injuries and they are not ADR approved as well. Also if a cop pull you over they can fine you as well.

They need to have whatever comes with the car e.g. horn and /or airbag to be considered legal.

well my car model dosen't come with a air bag wheel and applying horn is easy enough, that's all that I knew of, didn't know there was a ADR regulation on steering wheels without airbags, I know ones with airbags are not allowed to be changed.

Just saw on another site saying that you can be fined for not having a padded steering wheel, which I was unaware of, thanks for the info sparky.

I also heard somewhere that no metal is to be visible anywhere on the wheel to hit your head on in a crash.

sounds like I am going to have to keep searching, sucks cause I like the metal look on the steering wheels :(

My suggestion is trawl through your local wreckers and find a Mitsubishi steering wheel you like and it should fit. If you need a clock spring to make the horn work use the clock spring that came from the car . As the TS has as more modern indicator stalk that more acceptable of different model steering wheel. I just gone through changing my own steering wheel.

Here the wheel:

And installed:

It looks ok but way better steering wheel to use :D

Yeah but what I am after is a better circle shape of a wheel, these ones are just plain circles with no real ok grip, I find aftermarket wheels have those and that is what I am after, my current wheel does have a wheel cover but that moves around a lot and I find is quite annoying, I want to be able to get ahold of something that is pernament and also looks nice, thats my problem, that wheel is just round and slick, seems boring to me.

This is missing the covers but use a third gen TE cover you will be fine :) But here is a photo of ralliart steering wheel :)

You can buy ADR compliant aftermarket steering wheels, just be prepared to pay the $$ as they are usually expencive. The wheel will have the adr complince stamped on it. Ill see if i can remember where my old wheel is and take a pic for you
