Its been a while since i last posted but none the less i have another problem.

after not using the car for some time now (as i dont have my p's yet)
i got some throttle body cleaner (acetone in a can) and that worked a treat, and with the newly cleaned throttle it was running like a champ so i went for a "spirited" drive on some twisties.

now my problem is, after giving the ever faithful astron some smashing, it has developed what
i believe is a timing chain rattle. its nothin new its been rattling at idle since i bought the car and from what ive heard it may have had it since the factory :kb: but it has got considerably louder and now doesnt go away until about 1500 rpm (previously would disappear before 1000rpm)

Is it danger of going completely and leading to catastrophic engine failure,
how difficult is it to replace myself if neccasary what sort of mechanics bill am i looking at.

any help appreciated

Been there done that lol Um it cost me around $1000 as part of the timing chain guides have snap (Put this way the chain smash and chewed on everything) and took the mechanic a far while to sort out the mess :) But if you change it sooner than later (like I did :D) it shouldn't have damage to much :)

It pain in the but type of job hence why I paid somebody to do it for me.

i cant justify 1000 when the chain is 40 bux. i think i might give it go.
im just hoping she makes it to brissy and back in july.

it would be nice if push rods where still acceptable

When my timing chain was eventually replace it had done over 323 thousand kms, so I would say she will make it to brissy :D

thats allright pretty good

my timing chain let go on 150,000km so i put a new kit in it and yeah it let go again

so i bought a new engine and havn't had the problem since

what i don't understand is that a old guy bought this car new and i am the 2nd owner and it was maintained very well

but all i can think off is maybe the car doesn't like me haha
