sorry about starting another thread... I'm new and I have been finding it difficult to search for threads that actually talk about upgrading, parts, how-to's etc...
I've searched the forums over and over with many different key words and all i get is peoples cars, random chat threads and the like... that's all cool... but I'd like to find info on useful things like how to's and what parts are the best... when i start i new thread i just get told to search.. and then i search and dont find XD sorry for being a pain and not knowing...
maybe can someone start a thread that links useful threads (like this one below) in one summary?
http://www.aussiemagna.com/forums/showthread.php?t=75377
or at least how to use the search function in a way that will retrieve what you want...
(This time I'm looking for advice on upgrading/replacing my brakes... I like the look of ventilated rotors but dont know if anyone has found good parts... I spent the last 40 minutes trying to find something on this but I've come across everything but)

Hey Randal,
use Google search.
Just google Magna Brake Upgrade and it should come up with lots of hits from AMC.
In short, the first step up (which is a tiny one) is the VRX brakes which are a bit bigger.
(Not worth it)
Next step is the Ralliart/AWD Magna brakes which feature a twin pot front set up instead of the stock single pot and a bigger rear set up.
(Worth it if you can find a cheap set)
The step after that is the front brakes of a 380 which are twin pots and bigger still than the Ralliart Magna brakes - these brakes are very good. (Best value for money)
The next big step which is entirely unnecessary unless you go to the track is the Evo 5-9 Brembos - 4 pot fronts and 2 pot rears.
(Get these if you either find a set for dirt cheap or plan to go on the track regularly)
Then if you want to go insane get 8 pot K-Sport brakes for an Evo lol
(Get these if you are REALLY serious about the track and have the money)

To fit the rear AWD/Ralliart set up you will need hub spacers from Hopper Stoppers in VIC.
The same spacers are used to fit the rear Brembos on.
The 380 rears do not fit the Third Gens, at least not easily.
Custom lines will be needed for the Ralliart/AWD calipers as well as the rear Brembos. All else will just bolt on.

I went to AWDfront brakes in the mistaken belief that the 15" wheels would fit over them; they don't, had to get 16" mags off Ebay; all good now, much better than stock TW. But if I'd known, I might have gone straight to 380. I wouldn't bother to change back brakes.

Like Dingers said, Google search is a good alternative if you're not having much luck with the forum search engine. Just add 'site:www.aussiemagna.com' to your search query.
In otherwords, go to www.google.com.au and type in something like:
site:www.aussiemagna.com brake upgrade

We do have a DIY and FAQ Section (http://www.aussiemagna.com/forums/forumdisplay.php?f=82) (which I've conveniently moved the aforementioned thread to).
A 'useful threads' index is a good idea in theory but is flawed in practice. The reason why is that when it comes to things like brakes, everyone has their own opinion, so it's hard to make a 'definitive' thread. You get a much more balanced viewpoint if you search through different threads to form your own consensus.

I think you're referring to 'slotted rotors', which might explain why you're not getting many search results.
I have them on my Magna with the standard single piston brakes and they're not worth it. I wouldn't bother with them unless you were prepared to spend big-$$$ on a high-end brake upgrade. If you want better braking performance without breaking the bank, go for a set of Ralliart/AWD or 380 brakes. Mits-fix will sell you 380 calipers with brand new RDA rotors and QFM pads for around $550.

Forgot to mention you need wheels with the correct offset to suit as cooper said when fitting bigger and bigger brakes.

Thanks heaps for the very helpful replies :) I really appreciate that.
Dingers - awesome summary - I'll look into those options and figure out what is best all things considered. I've seen those 8 pot sports brakes and they are insane! but way over my head money wise XD
Red Valdez - thanks for the search tips too :) Will do that from now on. Eventually I'll become familiar with the layout and all!
By the way, if anyone is/knows a local mechanic that loves Mitsubishi's, feel free to pm me their details (South East Melbourne)
