View Full Version : Hi , Could I bypass the Air Con compresser using a 6PK1000 belt ?
I have a really noisy compresser bearing that needs replacing on a 97 TF 3.0 litre Executive. I need reliable help as this is a carpooling car for work.
My research has shown that i need Bearing no. 40BGS39DL.
It can be purchased from Bearing Traders, or CBC (Consolidated Bearing Company) Australia.
I may need tensioners? Or more?
I inspected my belt and it is badly warn.
So I am looking at a cheaper option.
I just read this thread ( http://www.aussiemagna.com/forums/showthread.php?t=85553 ) and it was for a 3.5 2003.
Could I use the 6PK1000 belt on the 3.0 litre engine.
Would it be a quick job of just loosening the old belt and refitting the 6PK1000 belt. Or would other parts be needed to bypass air con?
For future reference, This thread suggestion above .....to delete air con, will not work. The 6PK1000 belt is not applicable. So i guess im off to the bearing shop or off to find another compresser.

What prevented you from doing this and not using the air con compressor?
Are you sure is your air con compressor, it is not unusual for the aircon to be noisy on the TE-TH models due to design in part but again need to make sure you are looking at the right part as a loose worn belt will often cause a hell of a noise as well
Subzero just pm'd me regarding how he got on with his findings in relation to his thread.
Hey mate,
Nah it didn't work as without the compressor the 2 sides to the belt touch and rub.
I ended up having to put a new compressor in.

My KH has been making a strange noise, maybe its my air con compresser too, I thought it was the motor, might take the belt off and start it up and see if it stops making the noise, thanks for giving me an idea what it might be. cheers
I ordered a new 40BGS39DL air con compresser bearing today, $35 from CBC (Consolidated Bearing Company) Australia. CBC uses there own Part no. PC40660024CS, make sure to specify 40mm x 66mm x 24mm. Will keep posted to see how i go.
I got underneath the car while the engine was running and put my ear to the alternator and air con compresser. The comp. bearings were grinding as bad bearings do.

I completed fitting the bearing with success.
Here's a quick over view for replacing Air con Compresser bearing.
Once i undid and removed the belt tensioner pulley. I removed the alternator/air con belt.
I then proceeded to the air con compresser.
I undid the small 6-8 bolts located around the Air con compresser pulley, tapping lightly with a hammer and prying lightly with a screwdiver......I removed the cover housing.
This housing once removed exposes the clutch fully, enabling clutch removal.
I then undid the nut in the centre of the (black) clutch (it gets dangerously dusty at this point).
Then i removed the circlip that holds the clutch on. Then removed the clutch.
The clutch may seem worn/pitted and dusty, but not to worry, i do not think these clutches are a part that needs maintenance.
The air con compresser bearing should be visable at this point..........It is located within a 2nd housing.
The next step of the process requires a Harmonic balancer puller (preferably a 2 prong rather than 3 prong?).
I made a mistake here........Be careful as when fitting the balancer puller.
Make sure the prongs are located so as to remove the correct housing on the correct housings lip.
I made the mistake of using the puller to remove the wrong housing.
If the prongs are "Incorrectly placed" and the puller is tightened.......and you proceed in pulling on the wrong housing, it will bend and do damage to the 3rd housing. Look for the 2nd housings lip only.
(I unfortunately damaged the 3rd housing. These damages then prevented me further on..........the clutch's cir-clip could not be re-attached during the final reassembly stage,.........as the damages had resulted in a incorrect change to spacing for the clutches cir-clip.
I then discovered that for me to fix these damages, i had to remove a further second cir-clip to remove the 3rd housing to tap the damages out with a hammer).
Moving on,.........Once the balancer puller has enabled removal of the 2nd housing.....successfully.
The 2nd housing has little tabs/skases/notches that hold the bearing in. I dremmel grinded these off/away.
I then took the air con compresser bearing housing to a autoshop for the bearing to be pressed out. This cost me $5.
The mechanic said not to worry about using reappyling tabs/skases/notches to hold the bearing in, as the bearing is not likely to come out or loose once the bearing is refitted to the compresser.
Then i went home and completed reassembly and started the engine and the whiirrrrrrring noise was gone.
Success !
All fixed for $45.....bearing $35, $5 for postage, and $5 for the press. My first time effort came to 2-3 hours labour.
