Hey guys on my TL VRX Magna i shall have my Headers (Hurricane Installed by this week.) and i am looking at getting it serviced with a new tune i am wondering is there any sort of specific tune i should be asking for as the only mechanical mod would be the Hurricane Headers? i know there is specific terms for getting tunes that's what i am after one that will be best for the car with the only existing modification have looked for other examples but most of them do have other existing modifications. cheers Chris.

Sorry i don't know what i was thinking!

but its a TL by the looks of it? If you can source some ralliart or 380 cams before a tune, and maybe get the rest of the exhaust done too. SKR can do a tune by just posting the ECU to them and back, listing what modifications have been done, and they'll get it close, putting it on a dyno and tuning it lets them know how to finely tweak things to get the most power out of it that they safely can. Tune should be the last thing to do as it tells the computer to maximise the use of all the physical components installed, if you cange cams or exhaust or put on a cold air intake after a tune, its still all set up thinking how it originally was when it was tuned and won't run as best it can. Since the car has been modified from factory, the factory tune is no longer optimim for it.

Okay mate that sounds like the advice i need... I think the best i can do at this stage is pod filter, Stage 2 Cams, a bigger throttle body and new headers and a stall converter as i don't want to go overboard with Modifying just enough to make the car unique =) so i will wait on the tuning until i get these modifications done first.

I don't think you can tune 380s to any great extent?????
And i don't own a 380 mate i own a TL VRX =)

Not really sure what you're hoping to gain with the pod, but if it's a performance increase, it won't get you this. Probably better off sticking with the std intake.

I just seen allot of other AMC members use them so i thought they must of been good lol but i won't get it if its not going to be worth it.

The only benefit is the induction noise (which I love lol)

SKR in Adelaide is the only person confirmed in Australia to be able to tune the stock Magna ECUs. There's talk of a guy in Sydney being able to do it too... but if you're going to get it sent away, may as well get it sent to Steve.
If you were willing to go for a piggyback ECU, you may be able to find someone on the Sunny Coast who could tune it... if not, there'd definitely be someone in Brisbane.

Pod filters themselves aren't overly expensive. The problem is that if you just sit them in the engine bay, they're pretty useless, as they're sucking in the hot air from the engine bay. I'd only install one if you enclosed it, or ran it under the bumper or something (my preference would be the former approach).

Another option you could consider - if you're not absolutely set on using a pod - is an additional DIY air feed from the front grille to the stock air box (retaining factory intake snorkel), or using the alternative air intake snorkel fitted to the later model TL-W series NZ Diamante's (see Shoot's thread for an idea of what these look like).
Re the other mods, it has been proven by other members that upgraded headers, a set of 380 cams, and a freer flowing exhaust (including cat converter upgrade, but no point upgrading the muffler on your VRX), plus an ECU reflash / tune at the end of it, is probably the best pathway to improved power.

Ill defiantly look into it mate. and as for the VRX muffler i do not have it anymore as i exchanged it for my mercury muffler and headers are booked for Thursday going with Hurricane. and how much are 380 cams worth? and would a mercury Cat Converter do any justice since i all ready have the same brand muffler?

Hitman Tuning in Sydney is confirmed to be able to tune the stock Magna ECU and do everything to it that SKR can it seems.
For instance, having a Supercharger tune on the stock ECU.
However, SKR is far more developed when it comes to tuning Magnas and seeing as it's a postal I wouldn't be going to Hitman for it.
If however, you were looking for dyno tune, there's no way I'd be going to SA from QLD when Hitman's in Sydney.
