I'll cut to the chase here. I have 2 Third Gens (shortly will be one). One has make up on the steering wheel from the previous owner, but also looks a bit worn around the edges. The other one has a black steering wheel with black steering column covers and horn pad, but when I grip the wheel I can turn it back and forth in my hands, almost like the rubber covering has come unstuck from the metal (?) core.

I'm assuming this steering wheel probably isn't safe to use. The steering column covers and horn pad are fine though, apart from the fact the black one has "SRS Airbag" printed on it, and i'd be fitting it to a non-airbag car. Shouldn't be an issue.

What black steering wheels did Mitsubishi produce and what models were they fitted on? Preferably ones available at a reasonable price point, i'd love a dyed Ralliart wheel but considering the prices they're fetching i'll have to skip over that option.

Could go for the black leather wheel. Go for about $50 these days, then yeah the ralliart wheel or nardi leather wheel

when I grip the wheel I can turn it back and forth in my hands, almost like the rubber covering has come unstuck from the metal (?) core. You can fix this to a degree, drill a couple of small holes through to the core (solid metal) and "inject" some suitable glue; I've used liquid nails in the past, if you use something that isn't very liquid make sure you give the covering some good twists to try to work the glue around, rather than just having it sit at the dill point. Didn't end up using that wheel in the end though, so not sure how long it would last. Better off using something decent like maybe a urethane glue.

If its a non air bag car then why not get a boss kit and fit an after market wheel.

dont drill it it isnt how they do it. I have seen them cut open then have loc-tite 401 poured onto the rim then all glued back together but the best way to do it is by injecting the glue with a 21 gauge needle inject some in and slightly twist the grip to move the glue around a little. Then move around the wheel a bit and continue on till you have it all done
