i can see them lol.

woo another 5 speed lol. i love mine. so your sticking the second gen head on? parts car looks just as good lol. i was under the impression the one you were converting was auto and thats why i thought you would have an issue with the wiring loom but being manual all you do is peel the auto wires out i suppose lol.

Mint looking First Gen there, looks excellent, always liked the old Magnas to an extent but examples like this make me wish I had a First Gen. Keep it up. :)

thanks i take a lot of pride in the cars expicaly old ones, oldies use to have r31 skyline it killed me to see it traided in for a new lance that does not even compare to the skyline.

no im keeping the same head on but maby getting the cam ground on the cracked head ive colected. i was under the influnce that the heads were not much difference. altho its not hard changing one all ready did that to the auto i have the previous mechanic did a botch job causing the gasket to fail. plus the rest of the engine

well really the biggest difference between first and second gen engines is the oil pump and chan tensioner system but the second is roler rockers. the heads are meant to be quieter and my new engine certainly is.

they also supposedly have a better design for induction but dont know how much truth there is to it.

and as per the pics on facebook i uploaded i take allot of pride in how clean my car is too lol. buying a new dunnydoor and putting some mags on the front and paionting the steel rims on the back black dosnt near compare to keeping something older on the road in good condition. the fact i drove mine 400ks on little over half a tank last Saturday proves there is no reason why an old can cant be just as reliable and efficient as a new one.

um ok i compared both specks in the tm and tr manual and there same clerances n that ar will see, my tm head has hydrolic lifeters as well. the regrounded cam will make a diference no matter what head it is :). plus with the auto harness ive got extra wires that i can run to things like map sensor and fule pump relays

coming to think of it i think it was the us spec that had kidney shaped chambers not the tr.

yeh the hydrolic lifters on the M5 heads get pretty noisy and flogged when old but shouldn't be a problem if there not already noisy and you keep the oil resonable fresh. i use to know it was time to change the oil every time either the lifters got noisy or it started blowing lots of smoke lol.

the heads are defiantly interchangeable but if you don't want to change them then you can just swap the rocker train. just make sure you leave at least the end bolts in when you lift it all off the head or it springs apart like a jack in the box lol.

by really there isnt allot of difference between heads just in theory the later model has better roller rockers.

The main problem you will come up against would be the wiring and clearance issues.

There are a lot of benefits to doing the conversion and if I didn't write off my old 1st gen I might have done something like this already. Yes the MAF sensor and piping is a better design and is less restrictive, and the head design is a lot better on the 2nd gens so that's an automatic bonus. However, like I said, you will come up with a few problems in the conversion. As long as you stick with it you will get through.

Check out sigma-galant.com - there are a lot of guys that have done a 2nd gen engine + EFI / wiring conversions into their sigmas and have got a lot of gains from it.
