Hi Guys.
I recently purchased a 1998 KF Verada and have noticed that an engine oil filter is sitting in the position of the transmission oil filter instead.
I have done an engine oil change and that's when I noticed that engine filter has the same number as the one fitted to the transmission(which is at the top of the auto transmission). Is the filter used in the transmission the same filter as the engine oil filter?
Can you please advise if it is ok to leave this engine oil filter connected to the transmission as the transmission oil filter?
The transmission oil looks ok at the moment. The car has 306000 kms on the clock.
Your help to clarify this would be greatly appreciated.
Regards. Ike.

If not could flush and change the filter then

A quick check of a filter manual (say Ryco, or any other reputable brand) will probably indicate that the transmission filter should be a different item.

I'd be inclined to get the correct filter and fit it - if you plan to change trans fluid anytime soon, you may as well wait until that is done and put correct filter on then.

I think a well-regarded mechanic among the members of this Forum has already indicated this in another thread?

Hi Elwyn.
Yes another member did mention that and quote: "some idiot had installed the wrong filter" and yes the filter is a ryco filter. All I am asking is- is it ok to leave this filter in place untill the next transmission service? As I said in my previous thread, the oil looks ok for the moment.
If I have to change the filter with a correct one then I will propably do change the fluid also.
