I am thinking about changing my steering wheel on my KS Verada to an aftermarket wheel as i have a nice wheel and the boss kit but i want to keep my cruise control.
Not too worried about the Airbag, just want to keep my cruise control.
Is this possible ?

you need a cruise boss kit, which are rare then you need the momentary switches, or cannibalise your current wheel controls to suit your new wheel and you ready to go.
if you need a cruise boss kit i think i have one you can have cheap

It is illegal to replace a steering wheel with airbags with a steering wheel without airbags. Other than that, you'll need a steering wheel that has cruise handling ability with additional clock spings. I guess you also no longer want the steering wheel audio controls?

Thanks for the replies.
Vlad - Steering wheel controls light up but don't work anyway as i have changed the head unit.
-lynel- - Can you please check if you have the bos kit that supports cruise control and i will buy from you.

Hulkstar, could you use the cruise out of a KR (on/off button on the dash) and retrofit it?

i was thinking the same thing.
the cruise on the KS is operated from a button on the dash and a stalk from the steering wheel.
not sure how this is going to happen, not willing to lose my cruise control though.

I got my NARDI steering wheel from a Galant VR-4. Looks good and already had the holes for the stalk. All I did was tap the thread and was ready to rock :)

Thats the advantage of getting a steering wheel made for the car in question.

the wheel i am wanting to use is not a factory one and therefore doesn't have the factory cruise control stem on it.
i'll be keeping the factory one, i wouldn't sell any of the standard parts from this car but thanks for the offer.

Aside from being illegal to remove the airbag....the KR also has a control unit on the steering wheel, has little buttons on the wheel as well as the on off button on the dash
There may be a way to retrofit these onto the wheel you are using as the clock spring will not be affected by aftermarket stuff
If you want different and want to keep legal, have you thought of a 380 steering wheel?

how will i connect the cruise control ?

The 380 wheel should bolt straight on, will bolt onto a third gen (I have one on my wagon) thus will go on a second gen
The cruise is also puss easy. My KR had a steering wheel from a KJ with cruise on it years ago, only issue I had was slow down was speed up and vise versa if that makes sense. They work off a resistance set up so when you hit the lever x volts are supplied to the cruise ECU, the third gen uses a different set up.
So what you need to do is set it up by using a section of loom spliced into the second gen cruise loom off the clock spring. If you are particular about how the cruise lever works, you can remove the little resistors and swap them over like I did so resume is still up and set is still on the down stroke if that makes sense. The button on the end of the stalk will not work (I did hook it up on mine but was not really worth the effort)
Hope that does not confuse you too much but it can be done and if you are really tricky you can also retain your doggy bag as well......

Mate I know of a 380 with a wheel but unsure if I can post the airbag :(

If you have car insurance you will void it by changing your steering wheel, just thought I'd let you know that first.

Um not if you do it with the rules :P As long it passes the road ruled, insurance company can't do squat :)

It's a KS, insurance isn't worth it but thanks for the heads up.
Not sure what to do now, may as well just stick with the factory wheel if only other fsctory wheels are an option.
Ideally, i want to use my aftermarket wheel which is the whole purpose of the exercise.

Full comprehensive insurance may well be not worth it but is your money and life?
You cannot remove an airbag unless the model came out with it as an option and since the KS xi came with airbags as is, you cannot remove it under ADR 69 and 73. This would void you CTP and registration.

This is the interesting arguement, while one school of thought is that it would void the insurance, the other school states that only if the removal of that part contributed to the accident in the first place. Example is a FTO I have here at the moment, airbag removed, SRS module disconnected and aftermarket wheel installed, is flat bottom wheel so AFAIK is also illegal. THe insurance paid out the claim, the car was auctioned and I have the car being wrecked now. Now this does not come into CTP but then again, CTP is not something that is genreally Voided as this is not for the cost of the car, CTP only covers injury costs, even if you get hit by a drunk, stoned unlicenced driver, your medicals will be covered by CTP
As for roadworthy and not passing pink slip - Dan has never had any issues getting an unroadworthy car registered :P
