Have you been setting it, or just pressing the button?

Make sure you brake lights work, if both bulbs are blown cruise will not engage!
Make sure you brake lights work, if both bulbs are blown cruise will not engage!
Any idea how/why is that? There's the obvious link between the brake pedal switch and cruise control (to disengage cruise at the slightest touch of the brake pedal) but what's the connection to the brake lights? Why would cruise control be dependent on at least one brake light working? Is that an ADR thing?
(On a side note, my previous car was a 1990 Subaru Liberty that had a warning light come on in the instrument panel if one of the brake light bulbs had blown. Pretty neat I thought.)
Ignore my post above - I just realised why at least one brake light bulb needs to be good: it provides a ground connection (zero V) to the wire coming from the brake light switch which is also shared by the cruise control unit. For safety, the cruise control requires this wire to be at 0V and disengages if it goes to 12V (such as when brake pedal is pressed) or goes high impedance (such as when both brake light bulbs are blown).
A very good point Andrei1984, thanks for that!

Try swapping over the vac pumps between the 2 cars, also check the vac diaphram on the VRX as well as the val line. Most of the time if the car is un molested the vac pump will be the issue if you do not have brake light globe issues

also, if your foot is resting on the clutch at all, the cruise won't engage. figured this out when a mate drove my car home from sydney one day lol
