going below shouldn,t be a problem .
If it goes under half your thermostat might be stuck open a bit. Does it take a long time to warm up too? If its only a little bit under half I wouldn't worry too much - just keep an eye on it.

It goes below Halfway only when crusing on the highway but when stop starting city driving it stays halfway

It would also depend on the outside temperature. During colder months I would expect to sit below halfway, and also take a little longer to reach that point after starting.

My TR 4cly sits on halfway in town, but on the highway it can get to as low as a quater

Once the temp gauge gets to half way or a touch under it should stay there and not move. If it's dropping down to a quater, etc like a couple of you guys are saying I would be replacing the thermostat.

Sorry to hijack.......I take it mine may be stuck a bit open if on the freeway it goes down to about a millimeter above the cold line then??

mine sits half way and doesn't take long to to warm up. I get down to the end of the road and its done, my heater on the other hand says different, and all it does is blow cold air. which im thinking i have a stuffed thermostat, because my heater sometimes works and other times it will, but not for very long.

The thermostat should shut right off if it gets too cold, and no water will get cooled by the radiator. Mine used to drop to 1/4 down a big 80km/h hill in the cold untill I replaced it, and the warmup time went from tens of minutes to just minutes. When the engine temp is down, it will probably run a bit rich to try and warm the engine up, and if your thermostat is stuck open a bit keeping it a bit below operating temp it will always be using that bit extra fuel. (was told that about cars in general, not magnas specificly, so it might not run rich, just assuming)
626 reaper - your heater core or hoses might be blocked up, or your heater core might have a leak and the previous owner could have just plugged the hot coolant supply to the core hose into the return from the heater core hose and bypassed it alltogether instead of fixing it. If no hot coolant gets to the heater, it won't heat up the air. If it gets to temp in a reasonable time and holds it, the thermostat should be ok.

it takes the car about 10mins to get to normal operating temps
the heater core isn't leaking and its not blocked off
