Could be a problem with your fuel sender :)

What's that bro and where is it?
The float level assembly in the petrol tank?

Sounds like a real hassle to get to. Am I right?

I think it under the rear seat, but go to the wreckers and have a play in a wrecked second gen. Pull the sensor out there should be a couple wires, sender has a float that moves a variable resistor. It should measure lows ohm when the float is the down position and when up high should read some high resistance like 200ohm. I will look up the manual for better info. You will need an mulitmeter and set it ohms, you can pick up one for $10 :)
I had the same problem with my TF. although i would fill my tank, and within 50km's would be registering half used. went to our wreckers, picked one up for $19 and fitted it, took around 30 mins, but i suggest running your tank as empty as possible. you take the top of the fuel tank off, and pull it out. if you would like some pics i can upload some of how to do it?
