Hey everyone,
Well I've been putting up with it ever since I got a subwoofer (for almost 2 years). Anytime I turn my music up and it vibrates the car the slightest bit I get this very annoying rattling noise coming from my mirror. I'm guessing all 3rd gens or possibly just TL/W have this problem but I find it very annoying and embarrassing when trying to show off my sound system. Is there any replacement or fix to stop this?

Thanks guys :D

Yeah... I take mine off when cranking it up otherwise it looks like it will snap off from vibrations.
I'm guessing its illegal to drive around without one? might try pulling it apart this weekend to dampen it somehow..

Why not drill a small hole in the back side of the mirror and fill it with expanding foam. worth a shot.

I'd say it is illegal but after mine breaking off at a comp and taking some of the glass with it i was over it! lol Drove around for a fair while without one

I just put a piece of double sides tape behind it and it stopped vibrating on the glass anyway, if that's what you mean.

I too have the problem with my TJ - it's worst around 50-52Hz I think (test CD)

I found that by rotating the mirror 180 degrees and moving it as close to the roof as possible (there 2 ball hinges in the connections) then it eliminates about 90% of the rattling.
It's a bit tricky to use the switch for night time driving, but worth it to still be able to see backwards.

Hope this helps.
Graham.

Very common on Magnas. What I did was take it off and shove a folded receipt in until it was wedged stiff.

Whatever works lol

Adjust it exactly where you want it and add a few drops of superglue?

I was taking my dad to the airport and said, would power tape work to stop my mirror rattling? And he just grabbed it, pushed it into the windscreen, and slotted it down and has never rattled again or moved, 7 MONTHS LATER with blasting the sub now and then, I'll ask him how to do it when his back from America, I tried and couldn't do it

Could be worse guys.
Back in my old Auto, the actual top of the windscreen itself was rattling.

As for the rattle, try and find a way to add some weight to it?
Maybe in the corners tape on some weights and see if it helps? I know that's how dynamat is meant to work...

Pull... upwards though. Might take a big of wiggling but yeah if you pull it upwards towards the roof it slots off.

Conversion to the Chromatic Glass version was a solution for me. I had the TE mirror come off, the clips are McCrap. The TH onwards design is better even in the base cars, but the chromatic mirror is much stirdier to cope with the weight of the glass. Fixed the issue in the TJ I have too.

Also as the mirror dims itself, no need to ever touch it and bend or damage clips from adjustment.

I have an aftermarket RV mirror which uses an allen bolt to bind to the windscreen bit. It doesnt rattle, but shakes like crazy.

So how much do you think I'd be paying for a chromatic glass one? Thanks

I also tried that pulling upwards on the mirror and it doesn't budge :/ . Is there a special way to do it or any clips u have push?

There's a spring mechanism in there that needs to be depressed using a thin flat blade screwdriver to release it, then the mirror can be slid up. Someone else posted instructions on how to do this... maybe try a search?
