Hi there guys,
Last night I came home and could smell a strong smell of fuel when I drove into the garage. I looked under the car and there it was, 1/8 of a tank of fuel wasted :( . I checked the line on the fuel sender/pump unit and it was quite loose and fuel was sitting around the top of it. I tried putting the line back in but it refuses to clip in. I was thinking I could use the connection from my donor TL but I don't know if the connections are just interchangeable like that. I was also thinking maybe a screw up pipe clamp may keep it on. Any ideas guys?
Thanks
I occasionally have the same experience, drive car into garage and when I get out a fairly strong smell of petrol. Check the fuel cap and its always tight so I assume it wasn't that. Made me start thinking was my fuel line from the pump/sender unit loose as I had replaced the sender over a year ago but haven't really taken the rear seat off to investigate.
I'd be very scared if you found it to be leaking and fuel lying around the top of it, given that there's electrical connections terminating just a few centimetres away. Did you say you also found fuel under the car, i.e. on the floor?

If you pull backseat cushion and remove the tin plate - assume that you have already - does it look like the moulded fitting on the end of the fuel LINE has been hacked at?
The (prob black) fitting flares wider and has little springy tabs which are meant to engage against the flared ring of teh fuel pipe coming from the pump/sender unit.
If someone has tried to get fuel-line off the pipe without the little fuel-line tool - maybe they have damaged the locking tabs?

I just pushed the connection back on, seems to be ok now. I also have an emergency solution in which I have cable tied the line back onto the sender/pump unit with some pressure so it should be ok. We have replaced the sender so. And yeah there was a big puddle of fuel in the garage and a trail up the driveway. I used to get the strong fuel smell too so i've always been a bit wary of that too.

that connection is under a fair bit of pressure , maybe 40psi or so , so check connections are secure and the ends of the hoses arent split. in an emergency i guess you can use EFI hose and hose clamps , clamping on the inside end of the barbed bit.
