It's only on the Ralliart Magna.

and AWD's have a Rear and Centre LSD

And since this is posted in the AWD section, then maybe the right answer is as Munkeymanz said - yes, you have 2 of them.

Dave, don't worry, I've made the same mistake trying to answer questions in a 380 thread !! :)

The only other Magna to have an LSD is the MANUAL Ralliarts - the automatics miss out (slush box makes it less necessary).

Front - No
Center - Yes
Rear - Yes

The only Magna to come with a front LSD from factory was the Ralliart.

Is it possible to install the front LSD from a Ralliart into an AWD?

why u already have the rear LSD + its awd... is a front LSD really necessary ? i mean unless ur going forced induction i reali dont c a point... :S

Even with FI it would be overkill to the power you can get out of a TL or TW Magna. It really wouldn't help much at all.

Well it depends on what kind of LSD he wants. There are 1-way, one-point-five-way (OPFW) and two-way. Difference is that one-way locks for even drive for acceleration only, OPFW locks for acceleration and some braking conditions while two way locks under both however under trailing throttle it can be unlocked. Unless you are going for a track use then forget OPFW and two-way. They are too clunky and annoying on the street especially in the wet. One-way will do just fine. And if you can, get a clutch-type engagement. Apparently is a better proposition if more power and torque is sought. For AWD I can't see the point of getting an LSD. For a FWD though - by all means get one but not the helical-gear type. Its quiet in operation but will make the car torque-steer a lot worse. clutch-type engagement will be much more livable proposition. One-way will do you just fine on the street.

Is it possible? I don't think so. Reason is that the AWD is auto transmission and there's no LSD in Auto Ralliarts.
From what I've seen on these forums, the only way to put an LSD into an Auto Ralliart is to put a Manual Ralliart trans into it (ie: manual conversion)
And so far, there's no known way to do a manual conversion on the AWD.

As others have said, why would you? I did read some Mitsubishi published information that the front diff is an open diff for a reason.
It might have been that the open front diff provided better handling or maybe to do with transmission binding (front wheels need to turn at different speed to rear wheels when turning corners)

I'm pretty sure it's for the handling reason.
By design, if one front wheel loses traction, remaining power goes to the back wheels but hopefully you can still steer. If it took both front wheels to slip before power shifted to the rear, then you wouldn't have any steering left.

Manual box is do-able, just not cheap. Don't see why an evo box can't be modified to fit.

It can be used but is a lot of work because everything from starter motor down to every single bolt has to be moved.....am doing a manual conversion as we speak, hope to get some time to get back into it next week

Of course it is possible and no it has nothing to do with handling - It was a cost cutting measure. One of the most common evo upgrades is front LSD.

I am interested in following this, would certainly turn an AWD into a more capable car IMO. More so with a 380 engine :)

Will the bellhousing even fit in unmodified form? I assume you are trying a W5M51 box from a late model evo?

The front diff is actually in the transfer case, not in the gearbox, so you could fit a diff without too much effort as removing the transfer case is not that bad.

You would probably be looking at a Quaife or Wavetrac made for the evo 6-ish but dont quote me precisely :)
