Good morning all, have a new puzzle for this Sunday morning.
Picked up tue wife's new '02 TJ wagon yesterday, all is good (needs a few cosmetic things). Today we were driving down to the shops when we hear a "whistle" coming from the rear of the car. Now to me so far it sounds like it's coming from the rear axle, wheels etc...

Any ideas? Wagon owners, heard this before? My TF sedan hasn't made this sound before so I'm a little stumped!

Is it a steady whistle or louder in 2 spit when the wheel rotates?

Loudness is the same, variable with speed, it's gone for now???
Could be bearings need grease or bushes?

Could be the handbrake.
Had the same problem when I fitted new pads and adjusted the handbrake at the same time. They would squeak (whistle) intermittently.
All I did was check the adjustment at the rear hub and back off handbrake cable a bit and that fixed it.

Ahhhhhh sounds plausible. They tightened the handbrake to about 5 clicks in the road worthy.

The noise could be caused by the car's wentilation system. There is a cabin exhaust located behind the rear wheel. Maybe there is a bit of gunk stuck in the non-return valve which is supposed to keep the dust out of the cabin?
