Hey, I want to add a switch to my car dash to turn the cabin light on and off, at the moment its either reaching back over my head, or half open my drivers door (doesn't swing open, just isn't closed properly).

My questions are:
Is there a better access to a wire I need to ground to turn it on than splicing in at the door button and running up to the dashboard? I would assume there is another one running already which turns on the door open light in the instrument panel, I'm hoping I could splice in a grounding wire to that one to turn it on.

Secondly, how do you remove the spare switch block from the space next to the dimming dial? that is where I would like to put the light switch if I had one, I have tried getting in there to try and get it out but couldn't get it out easily so I figured there was a trick to it that I was missing.

Thanks

Okay, TLDNR, I will condense the question:
How do I get either of the things next to this dimmer dial out?

(Not my own photo, too lazy to take photo myself, found this in a google search, belongs to someone on here)

Don't know about the wiring but instead of using one of the spare slots, why not use the coin slot next to the mirror control.
1. Remove two screwn at the back of the centre console (need to move both seats forwards).
2. Lift Ash tray out and remove two screws.
3. Make sure park brake is on and Shift gear lever all the way down to 1 for more room.
4. Slide the centre console back while lifting the rear of it at the same time.
5. Remove two screws exposed behind the gear leaver and lift the entire panel out (need to unhook the mirror control but the cigi lighter does not unhook).
6. Popup the coin slot and fit in a switch. I used a switch from a wagon at the wreckers which was for rear windows washer and fitted it in there to turn on/off my fog lights in my old KS.

yes i had this in my second gen. but i used 2 on/off switches. ill have to have a think about how i did it. (or find the wiring diagram i drew up four years ago)
it was an accidental (and more useful) sideeffect of my interior neon installation.
basically you need to earth the doe light circuit in the negative side with a switch attached.

Thanks for the suggestion, but I have LPG installed in my car and had them wire the light up fuel gauge and fuel switch over button unit there.
