Hello.
Can someone tell me if 235/45/17 tyres are ok on series 2 VR/X rims or do they have to be 225/50/17
Thanks

235s are on the wide side for a 7" rim. I wouldn't run them, but plenty of other members have.

I've run 235 on 7" but it's not recommended. I'm running 235 on my 8" atm.
Proper size is 225 for 7.

225xs50x17 are standard vrx size have seen plenty of people run 235 with some scrapping issues though when lowered
235/45 17 is borderline on a 7" wide rim, although michelins dealer catalogue doesn't have a problem with it.
I ran that size for years and had no problems even when lowered. Not sure how the hell it will scrub as per the post above though?! The only close point is the inside of the tyre against the rear upper control arm. Not much room but it's ok because the tyre doesn't deform at all at this point of the rotation. I had an exec as well without the VR-Xs different shaped control arms to accommodate the wider rim

Yeah 235/45/17 tends to work OK on 7" apparently its technically illegal due to not being a listed size in the tyre and rim association handbook (which the ADR rules reference as the guide) but I've been unable to verify that as copies are not publically available.
But many people run it and 235/45/17 are cheap.

You could look at 215s as well. That's what the 380s run on their 7" rims. Not sure if that'd be any easier than 225/50s though.
215/50R17s would be a perfect fit - it'd be 0.7mm smaller than stock (225/50R17s are 9mm larger than standard on a TJ Advance).

215/55r17 usually has a load index of 93, not the required 94 load for a third gen. Also I have the aust standards manual that lists the 235 as illegal on a 7" rim
