Gday everyone im currently changing the head on my tr 4cylinder 91 i have the new head on but im facing a small issue. Torqued or untorqued the timing sprocket will not go onto the new camshaft. Its like the chain is too tense... Help?

its on the oil pump ( from the link )
the rod length has to be more that two feet long
to reach the rachet inside the timing cover

The ratchet type tensioner wasn't introduced until the TS model. The slipper type tensioner is spring loaded and tends to move out when the cog is removed from the cam chain. The top cog should sit on the support, if not, the slipper will pop right out and you will need to pull the cover off to fix the problem.

I have done several TRs and they had the ratchet
must be a build date or engine number thingy

well my timing chain for whatever reason is so tight it has bent the sprocket holder downwards (or support)... but the cog has not moved on the timing chain nor has the chain moved in any direction except up and down.

Get a bright torch and shine it down there, you will soon see if the slipper tensioner is in the right place - side of oil pump - and if you have the ratchet thingie. Might just be a case of convincing the slipper to go back into the body of the oil pump. Usually it slips back in when you lift the cam cog up. (provided you haven't turned the crankshaft with the cog off the cam)
I thought the ratchet was introduced with the TS model, but I could be wrong . .
If what you see from the top doesn't make sense, take the timing cover off and have a good look-see.

i agree with mad max
you now have to take the timing cover off
so you can manually push the tensioner in fully
to take the slack off the chain and reset it
repco sell the gasket set the sump gasket is genuine mitsubishi
you have to take care now
at this point it is easy to break the oil pump
looks like the timng chain has dropped a tooth
so you might be out with the valve timing
its a big job with the motor in
the sump has to come off
and air con and its holding bracket
alternator timing pully power steering
engine mounts off etc
