hi guys,

just drove from adelaide back to my home of mount gambier and discovered a problem with my 'rada.

At speed it has developed a problem where the whole car starts shaking/shuddering/vibrating (sometimes pretty harshly) and a sort of knocking sound while accelerating up to and whilst set to cruise at 110km/h, as soon as i roll off the accelerator (or cancel c.c) though, it disappears completely and no problems under braking. im pretty sure the problem is there at lower speeds just not as noticeable.

the thing that stumped me was it appeared at disappeared at random times during the trip, sometimes going away on a smooth section of road.

any suggestions on to what the problem might be? any help would be appreciated :woot:

Wheel alignment, wheel balance, tyre pressure, engine mounts, trans shudder so many. .

Happen under acceleration? and im guessing heavy acceleration is worse?

yeah under acceleration, and it does get worse, did have three mates in the car as well. it shouldn't be wheel alignment/balance had all that done about 3 months ago. i will have to check pressures though.
whats transmission shudder? sounds bad and expensive, the old 4spd hasnt been smooth for a while too. hope its not the mounts either!

Sounds like trans shudder mate

Had the same problem. A good trans service and or flush usually gets rid of it :) Nothing to serious just the trans getting older

that does make sense! I will have to look into that then, was planning on getting the transmission serviced pretty soon as it was well overdue. after that if i still have the problem at least ill have a serviced transmission :) will get underneath it in the morning to see if its anything obvious too.

cheers for your thoughts mate, appreciate it! :)

Could be the dizzy aswell, even driveshafts but it sound to me like trans shudder. I have heard This (http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/DR-TRANNY-LUBEGARD-TRANSMISSION-INSTANT-SHUDDER-FIX-/150510836237?pt=Motors_Car_Truck_Parts_Accessories&hash=item230b251a0d) stuff works wonders!

Had it on my original TN (second hand) many years ago - fixed by trans oil changing and only using Mitsubishi fluid

lol and when you have tried all that, replace the ball joints. Fixed the same problem on my TS at 242,000 km. Whats yours at?

Worn tie rods, tie rod ends, can cause this as well. Have a look for play with the wheels off the ground.

yeah i was thinking possibly driveshafts too

will check for play with the wheels of the ground also

the old 'rada has almost done 270,000km :) so it could be any of these, if not even more than one of them!!

Yep, you will find multiple point of wear. Just replace one point at a time until the problem is solved. Tie rods, tie rod ends and boots are quite cheap, ball joints and wheel bearings get more expensive. Its amazing these bits last as long as they do considering the load on them.
