Hey Guys!
There seems to be bugger all on these forums about Refinishing, but I have been respraying my 98' TF and all was going well until I got too my Clear Coat.
The Base coat layed on relatively well, I mixed the clear up, and had a crack at spraying. (This is my first time spray painting) I have come up with tiny air bubbles in the last coat of clear, they are pinhole sized and there are hundreds of them in a square 100x100. They are translucent, and look like air bubbles.
I have been doing a bit of reading, and it is aparently solvent pop. (Solvents trying to escape but more material has been applied, trapping the solvents)
So, next time I will leave it flash off for longer and see how that goes, but. How do I fix the panels which I have wrecked? =(
Any help would be awesome, cheers guys!
Chris.
Hey Illestmagna,
If you dont get an answer here, try a forum called Autobody101. They seem to be a helpful mob.
Have never used 2pak, did you use a booth or just work outdoors?

thats an easy one mate. Thats silicone pretty much. You need to do more prep cleaning and make sure you are spaying in a "clean" environment. Anything with silicone needs to be removed and cleaned up! Armoural, tire shine, some polishes. . ANYTHING WITH SILICONE IN IT!
Good luck buddy and let me know if you need help with anything
The panels that are wrecked you will need to let dry and cure properly. After that sand back to the base or even the primer, prep and do again pretty much. Annoying but only way to get right

Silicone left on the panel produces fisheyes, white dots, not bubbles. Which is it? Have a good look.
Could just be insufficient drying/hardening time, with acrylic its putting too much paint on too quickly. Don't know about 2 pack though. No solvent in that, as far as I know.
If its silicone you could prep wash and try a flow coat.
2pac still has solvents, 10-20% thinners added on mixing? Do you have any close up pics?

I don't have any pic's becuase my frigging 8 megapixel camera is too shit!
They are tiny little air bubbles that have not popped. It's not solvent pop or fish eye. I have scoured Autobody101 and The Refinish Network and it seems to be, my booth is too hot, and I'm not letting it flash off for long enough.
Cheers for the help anyway, I just need to sand the shit out of it now =(
Try maximum optical zoom from 1m or more distance?

Dont panic its quite common not so many as you have though, pick a small area get 1400 grid sand paper, WET sand until all bubbles gone, then apply cutting compound with a proper orbital polisher (with adjustable speed, dont go to fast max 1500 rpms, otherwise you will burn through the clear coat) to get rid of scratches, bubbles should be gone now!
I remember when my GTO was done, even panel beaters still had those bubbles in the clear cote (only a few though), when i came back the next day all were gone.

If they are too deep however you will need to respray :(

im most cases they arent, i have never done any spray painting with 2pack paint where there were no bubbles at all, so its quite a normal procedure to sand back till smooth. Acrylic on the other hand is much easier to get smooth finish so sanding bit is minimal only to get rid of lemon skin.
