i have a little problem shifting from P on cold start-up. the auto gear shifter seems a little reluctant to move away from P. anyone can explain this? it's a 99 TH advance.

Is your car parked on an angle? ie: it sits in your drive way every night on a sloping angle. I've noticed with my TF auto, that when the cars parked on a slope and put into 'P', with out the hand brake on tight enough to stop the car moving the car rolls back sligthly until the P mechanism locks in and stops it from rolling any further. As it locks in Im guessing it builds up a small amount of tension or stress on the shift cable, hence making it hard to take the car out of P.

nope it's on perfectly level ground. for that matter, i do realise the thing you mentioned. that's normal i know.

mine does the same, and it even jolts when i moved the shift from P to R. solution, i always put it in N and use handbrake, no more problems...

take off the surround, clean all the gunk n dirt around the bit that slides (if that makes sense) mine did it for a while, but didn't feel mechanical, it was just a bit of dirt caught up in the shifter itself
