Hi, im a student who just bought a tr magna about a week plus ago from this guy. I wasnt too sure about magnas and at the time i got the car i was told that the only problem with the car was the cv joint noise, which i thought was common in any old car.. But then the car broke down on me on the third day and i had to get it towed to a mechanic..
I later find out that the carby needs a look at or replacement and the timing chain has been stretched and needs replacement too.. As well as some small little parts like distributor caps rotors fuel filters and stuff..
The main two problems the mech said was the TIMING CHAIN And CARBY.. The car starts but it takes like three seconds or so before it starts , if it starts that it, and magna buff told me that this was a carburator problem..
So i rang up a couple of places for quotes and each place was quoting me around 900 -1000 for the timing chain replacement ( which is not far off what i paid for the car) and roughly 500 - 800 for the carburator revamp...
As im a student i really dont have the money to afford the mechanical labour and ive heard that the timing chain kit costs under 200 by itself and i could get a carby kit for 150 ish.. the only problem is that i dont have many of the tools or knowledge to do this by myself, and i cant afford a mechanic
If anyone of you magna enthusiasts in WA who have the knowledge and/or equipment at home or something that could help me out with fixing my car up.. I would really really appreciate it as i want to keep my magna.. Im in bunbury during the weekdays but id gladly drive up to perth and beyond if anyone was kind enough to help me out with my car.
Thanks a ton
