So far I've called two Mitsubishi Dealerships in Sydney and I've been quoted $45 and $48.40 for a five litre bottle of automatic transmission fluid! This seems a bit steep to me.

People on these forums all say that Mitsubishi is the cheapest place to buy the fluid and quote prices of around $35 dollars per 5 litres. Where in Sydney can I get these prices?

Thanks in advance

Don't use anything other than genuine Mitsubishi ATF (auto transmission fluid).

$45 sounds about right. Is it really worth it driving a few suburbs out of your way to save 10 bucks?

If you're changing fluid I'd recommend you do a power flush and provide the fluid to make sure they're not putting crap in.

It's possible he's wanting to do a flush and refill in which case he may need a few of those...

Not sure how much is required for a full flush or how much the auto box takes.

If it helps, the manual box holds like 4.2L or something so one 5l bottle was enough.

You generally need three 5 litre bottles for a full flush, depending on how dirty the fluid is. I always ended up using 3 on mine.

like what dingers said, an extra 10 isnt worth stressing over.
just get 2 bottles of the genuine stuff for a full flush, i posted up a DIY once.

Thanks for all the responses guys. I'm about to take delivery of my KJ Verada wagon and am getting ready to give her some love. I've got the workhop manual here and am planning a full flush. Looks like I'll just go with the genuine fluid. I was just shocked as to the price as there is always threads on here talking about how cheap the Mitsubishi Fluid is. Looks like the price has gone up. Still strange how different dealers have different prices! I'll try to bargain them down a bit and see how I go.

Do you mind saying which dealerships quoted you?

You can go aftermarket as long as you ensure it is Mitsubishi SPIII compliant but you'll still pay $40ish i think.

Full flush at min is 12l so you will need 3bottles

Not sure why there is such fear about non genuine fluid to be honest, ANY SPIII rated fluid is fine, you do konw of course that there are about 2 or 3 manufacturers of fluid and that most of them come out of the same factory lol. Mits get theirs from BP, I get mine from Mits as I have a very good deal with a local dealer however prior to that I used Penrite fluid for all the cars I do.

I know of at least one case where a customer has taken Mits to VCAT as they were denied a warranty claim due to not using genuine fluid, VCAT ruled for the owner of the car stating that as the owner was able to show by way of the invoices that the fluid was an SPIII rated fluid, that in the opinion of the comittee that the failure was not caused by the fluid thus Mits had to honour the warranty. This was on a 380.

So, in the end, if your local dealers are being a little steep, go any decent brand that states that the SPIII rating is being used.

I live just up on the Central Coast and have had a bad experience with the local Mits dealer so when I had to head to Newcastle I rang them for their best offer a few months ago and they were 20% cheaper for everything.Even the mits air and oil filter were cheaper for original than super cheap ryco..They did their g/b oil for $34.95 a bottle for 3 bottles..
They are at Wickham if that is any help
