Hi all, I'm having problems with my 97 magna. I think it's a TH.
My stock remote for the alarm/central locking died and isn't repairable. I tried buying a replacement off a locksmith the other day we both tried reprograming the central locking using the 3 acc to on method with out any luck. I've also tried the diagnostic plug pin 1 to earth method aswell with no luck. The factory alarm system seems to be preventing the recoding procedure. After 3 clicks from acc to on I can hear a relay open but no flash of the indicator lights and the remote will not bind.

Has anyone had this problem with a factory alarm?
Thanks

I have found sometimes they are picky and may take up to 6 acc-on cycles. i have also found some like a slow acc-on and some like it fast...

You could be lucky like me and never get it to work... 3 different mechanics, 2 armed with a MUT-II found no codes, passed all tests but still cant program remotes to my TJ.

Doubt it would be a fuse problem but check them anyway.

When i couldnt get my remotes to program about 50,000 people said check fuses, disconnect battery, check grounds, make sure you do it as it states in the owners/workshop manual, check for fault codes with a MUT. The relay you hear is probably normal, mine does it every time the ignition is switched on (auto relay)

Useless information below that will probably not help you in any way
As per the workshop manual: PROGRAMMING RF TRANSMITTERS
Have all transmitters that are to be programmed together in the
vehicle.
NOTE: Once teach mode has been entered all previous codes
will be erased.
1. To invoke teaching mode for the RF transmitters, turn the
ignition between ACC and IGN 3 times within 5 seconds
and leave at the IGN position.
2. The hazard lamps will flash once if entry is successful.
3. Within 5 seconds of this acknowledgment, press any
button on the first remote key.
4. The hazard lamps will flash once to indicate acceptance.
5. Within 5 seconds press any button on the next key to be
taught, this process may be repeated for up to 4 keys.
6. Teaching mode will be terminated by any of the following
events.
1. The ignition is turned off.
2. More than 5 seconds have elapsed since the last
valid key code.
3. Four keys have been taught to the BEM.
4. No correct data has been received in 10 seconds.

(im assuming its the standard remote know as a "peanut" red/green)

a 97 shuold be a te/tf in which case it wuold have originaly had the single button remote which i understood to be called the peanut as it had a somewhat peanut shaped case
and in a te i think you turn it from completely off to on up to 10 times its slightly different method than a th or later car.

then again the tf apparently had a 3 button remote aswell but was different to the th (it was grey instead of coloured buttons)

anyway all taht is beside the point you asked.

try swapping it from completely off to on up to 10 times until the hazards click a 96/97 as i said is a slighty different way to set new remotes. Hopefully that'll get you further, if not try acc to on 10 times

Ok, got the remote to work on my tf 97 magna with a factory alarm fitted. After trial and error found that I needed to lock the doors and click between acc and on 3 times before the car would go into program mode. This also armed the alarm, then it accepted the new remote. Also had to remove the key from the ignition to test. Hope this helps someone in the same situation
Cheers

when I tune them in , I just keep turning and counting how many times till the hazards show up , then re-do it and press the button,, most are 3-5 turns , most THs are 9-10 turns , TJ to TW are 3.5 also

also if your having a issues with it , open and close all the doors, boot and bonnet , to reset all the sensors
