View Full Version : Lowered springs too short?

I just took the front springs off of the strut and unwound the spring compressors, it's like a foot longer than the lowered springs I bought. If I put the lowered springs on the strut they look that short that they'd be loose on the assembly, they're not going to compress down at all. That's not right is it?

Are the lowered springs progressive? Progressive springs have tighter coils at one end than the other.

Nope, they look exactly like the stock springs, only half the height, they're superlow Lovells springs. I've never done this before so I'm not sure, but it doesn't seem right to me that they'd be that short that you wouldn't even need to use spring compressors to get them on the strut.

I put lows on my Scorpion and I didn't need spring compressors to get them on. The shorter springs will be stiffer. Having said that, I have never changed springs on a Magna, so your mileage may vary.

Hmm, I might have to just try it and see. When they're put onto the strut they're not heaps loose, but enough that you can move them a bit, that doesn't seem right haha.

is this the front or rear? my rears were like this, i put them on by hand, the fornts however were probably 2inches longer then the strut uncompressed but i only have lows. Superlows would be shorter again because they are the same spring ratio as the lows, so to get the extra drop they have to be physically smaller. my kinda only needed to be compressed 2 inches to fit on but that 2inches was a lot stiffer then the 10inches of stock spring. Its how they are made. As long as they are captive you will be right, but if you can shake thme outta thier seat when the strut top is on, you might have dramas, so when going up steep driveways and what not when 1 wheel can fully unload.

Well I put them on and they seem fine. But daaaaaaaamn that's low. My guess is it's only just legal. This is just on the fronts, the backs with be normal lows. Does anyone have tips for heightening it maybe 1cm? I'm already sick of scraping on spoon drains. I'm going to pump the tyres up a bit and hope that helps a little. I'm also considering looking at a wreckers for some 16" stock wheels, so that'll add an inch to it. I can't afford good wheels since my hours at work were cut, but maybe I can get some stock wheels off of another car cheap enough. Do any Magnas or 380s come out with stock 16's?

Veradas came with 16s, but this won't raise your car up. If you want to raise it up, you're going to have to put taller springs in it.

bigger mags use lower profile tyres to keep the rolling diamter of the wheel the sameish, so your speedo is accurate. your stock wheels are 205/65/15? i would go to the wreckers if this is the only way you can go and get some rims and get something like a 55series 16inch tyre. will raise your height slightly BUT will put your speedo out. not legal. also remember the car will be pointing heavily to the ground at present since you are stock height at the back, when you do the rears the front will lift up slightly as the tail squats down more.

hope thishelps. if 1cm is all you need doing the rear springs is all you need

plus 1 with LYNEL once the backs are in the car will level out . and look better.

Some later model 17's should help you out.

You can get them pretty cheap; 380VRX, VRX, GTV etc 17's for between 250-500$

you can go like 225/60r17 from like a camry sportivo you speedo will be out but it will raise the car. no ideal. again it depends on how much you need to bring the front up
