hey guys,
have had my 4 cyl TR on the road for just over a week now, and it still has a noisy lifter. I have some spares to replace it with, but my question is, if I leave the water pump belt connected when I undo the rocker gear, do I need to worry about the timing chain/cam gear moving, as I wish to leave the cam in situ so I don't have to worry about the automatic tensioner.

to get to the lifters
the cam stays in place ,as does the timing cog and water pump pully

put the motor onto TDC
with the rocker cover off
you have to undo the series of bolts holding the roller rockers
and the cam bearing caps

then soak the new lifters in oil
raise the rocker shaft and fit the lifters
torque up bolts
19 nm is the max torque

job done

if your cam seal is leaking .its a good time to od it aswell as you can see any ware on the cam and ajust the seal placement .
when you lift cam bearing caps off be careful not to drop any lifters.i use a bit off grease to hold them in place when refitting.
