the wagon's done about 75k, and being on gas, so the back is sagging a bit. When I put a towbar on it, it will sag more. A pair of Monroe gas pump-up shocks would do the job but they're about $400 + fitting.

I put Polyair bags on my old AU Falcon and they were great, and cheaper.

has anyone put these on their car? do tehy exist for a gen 3?

Try new Kings springs or even go the raised spring option.

Polyair list bags for Magna wagons $225. 61892 is the number...not sure what series but give them a ring.

Hi Cooperplace
I just replaced the springs on my TL Magna wagon. I used to be a mechanic, but found the job really easy. Didn't have to use spring compressors. I bought raised springs from Pedders for $180 for the pair. They have a great website.
To do the job:- Jack up the back, take off the wheels, undo the 17mm lower nuts on the shocks. Place the jack under the center of the rear axle and jack it slowly till you see the shocks free. Pull the bottom of the shock off the bolt and let the jack down. The original springs come strait out. The raised springs are a little harder to get in. I had to get my son to stand on the shock bolt to give me a little extra room.
Whole job was well under an hour.
I often tow a boat with my Magna and when the whole family are in with the boat on - it did get a bit low at the back. Mine has done 140k and it almost looks like a 4WD at the back now compared to what it did look like. I would say the original springs must have sagged quite a bit.
I not tested with a full load and boat yet - Next weekend hopefully
Hope this helped.

Hi Yellow,

that sounds very helpful.

But I'm in 2 minds: new springs, or Polyairs?

Does anyone know how the standard King springs (their catalog doesn't list a raised spring option -not that I could see) would work?

Well as far as what to expect if you fit a set of Pedders springs - The top of the rear arch is now roughly 73cm above the ground. I am running starndard tyres - 205/65/15. The ride is harder but still not as hard as the company Corolla I am driving. (2009) My wife who mostly drives the Magna, didn't comment.
Do you have to adjust the pressure in the Poyairs for different loads?

Does anyone know how the standard King springs would work?
It would be the same height as standard, but a stiffer spring rate. My brother did that on his Holden Jackaroo - replaced the stock suspension with standard height Kings gear. It noticeably raised the back of the car as the old suspension (10 years/160k old) had sagged pretty chronic :P

I would only go for the Polyairs if you're towing. I've always been under the impression that they're more of a 'temporary' solution (ie you only need to pump it up whenever you have a one-off heavy load in the back). Obviously a towbar and a LPG tank will weigh down the car all the time.

yeah, I'm leaning towards springs rather than polyair or pump-up shocks. What are my options for springs: Pedders, King, and Industrial Springs (aurora), are there any others?
