There is a way to check the voltage that the alternator is putting out, unfortunately RAC did it for me when my battery went flat. Alternator couldn't charge it quick enough. If you battery is relatively new, then its probably your alternator that may need replacing. If your battery's old, it could just be that that needs replacing. Either-way, I don't see why battery world would tell you your alternator was giving low voltage if it wasn't. After all, they do supply batteries. Do they sell alternators too?

I don't think they are too difficult, at least on my old 2nd gen it wasn't.

I'd be checking your regulator brushes, it's usually the main cause of alternator failure and you can get brush reco kits for around 30-40 bucks.

If he doesn't know how to install an alternator he's not going to know how to check the brushes.Install an alternator is easy. Disconnect the battery first. undo the wire from the back of the alternator and pull the plug out also loosen the belt tensioner off and slip the belt off the pulley undo the bolts that hold the alternator on 2 from memory installion is reverse making sure to tension the belt back up and last of reconnect the battery.

so u have to pull it apart? it might be the best way since the 2ed hand one might be the same

Yeah, probably easier to practise on your 2nd hand one, reco it yourself and then have a crack at replacing it. It's not overly difficult if you are mechanically minded.
